1080p can not be transmitted over component or vga connections. Hdmi and dvi are the only kinds of interface that can transmit true 1080p signals. I speak from personal experience and from professional resources. Crutchfield.com, and popular mechanics both have in depth explanations of these sorts of things.

I apolagize, I was slightly mistaken, component cables can carry 1080p signals but very few TV's and electronics except it.

Okay to make things even more complicated, I have found an article saying that 1080p is indeed supported on the VGA cable.

Check it out here

Quote:
Using your 360 with component cables:

Xbox 360 games will be upscaled to 1080p, and games which are 1080p native (none yet) will run without a hitch.
HD-DVD’s will run at a maximum of 1080i, which is due to the AACS DRM implemented into HD-DVD’s.
DVD’s will only play at 480p (ouch!), due to the CSS inside DVD’s, which prevents upscaling any higher.

Using your 360 with a VGA cable:

You’re all set, as DVD’s, games, as well as HD-DVD’s will display in full 1080p.

This topic is always brought up for some reason. I hate to be the person to say it but PLEASE do a search. 1080p was brought out to the 360 before the hdmi system was out.

Enough said case closed please put a sticky up saying 360 can accept 1080p with Component, HDMI and VGA.

I've lost count of how many times I've clarified this.

Stevo said it but I feel like saying it too. Component is perfectly capable of handling 1080p. It's the individual TVs that refuse to accept 1080p over component.

Some TVs that say they don't accept 1080p over component or those that leave it out of the specifications can accept 1080p over component. Many manufacturers leave it out because of HDCP and the fear that the token may be activated, thus deactivating 1080p over component.

VGA will allow DVD upscaling, 1080p playback of HD-DVDs and will also unlock additional resolutions when used with the appropriate display device.

all that shows is that it does 1920x1080 doesn't specify I or P so it proves nothing.

As for the person that says VGA can't support 1080P it may not on consoles but I've run resolutions as high as 2048x1536 through standard analog VGA cables just fine and thats a lot higher res than 1920x1080.

i c. you wanted to know if it's interlaced or progressive. Don't know on that one. Suggest you contact microsoft to get their "we don't officially know anything" routine.
