, too shiny). On the plus side, you can still get XCM cases for the original Xbox, but the only color I can seem to find nowdays is the crystal red version for around $20. Cathodes would probaly be around that price as well (either 2 dual 4" cathode kits, or 1 dual 4" kit and 1 80mm ring cathode), so for a simple cosmetic mod, I estimate $80 for a final cost ($40 for Xbox, $20 for XCM case, $20 for cathodes). XCM cases for the original Xbox used to cost $50, but now they're pretty cheap. Very close in quality to the original case's plastic.

I bought two of my Xboxes via a b/s/t forum and one of them from ebay, but a good b/s/t will probably get you a little cheaper than ebay. The prices are getting lower every day though, and if you want a fun little project, nothing beats a lit up Xbox. And of course, they're always safe on live

Speaking of which, you get a relly subtle effect if you put a blue cathode in that case. It appears to be a bright green. I only have one by the case's jewel (80mm cathode), but if you put a pair of 4" blues above the controller ports, the light will shine blue through the vents, but look green through the case.

Another combination I've been curious to see would be green cathodes in a red case. I would imagine that would produce an awesome effect. Sadly I've been stuck on color coordination with my cases so far, but I'm thinking I'll try the green with my red case.
