Internet-famous modder Ben Heck just completed a teardown of the new 60GB Xbox 360. And while Microsoft is only advertising the 40GB storage bump over the old 20GB model, he found that there is one notable difference which will further prevent the old RRoD problem. And it has to do with RAM.

While the system is still utilizing a 65nm CPU, Microsoft has eliminated potential heat issues by removing the memory chips residing on the underside of the motherboard. (It would seem that Microsoft simply doubled the capacity of the topside memory.) The bottom-mounted memory is well-documented as a source of heat issues remaining in the modern Xbox, so this update is definitely a good thing, even if Microsoft's rumored upcoming design combining the CPU and GPU onto one chip should run the coolest of all. [Ben Heck via Kotaku]

kinda dissapointed after i opened the usps box yesterday. the ebay seller had just packaged the xbox, cables, controller, papers in the usps box, no original 360 box.

on the back of the 360, above where the av cables go in, theres no sticker there. the power brick makes a weird noise, and when picking the 360 up, it has a rattling noise, like something is broken loose inside.

is all this normal for a brand new 360?? T_T

does the 60gb version actually run cooler or quieter than the 20gb version?

Surely they just increased HDD size. To the core consumers of the Xbox 360 a bigger hard drive to them probably makes them think it'll go faster.

Same goes for PS3 models.

From what i read the dvd is quieter and faster then the 20gig their using new drives from liteon or i cant think of the other brand. Also the new ones are harder for people to hack cause they use read only firmware.
