Will the nyko intercooler cause the dreaded rrod?
If so then... How does it cause it? And... Is there a way to have a power supply separate from the 360?

isnt the PSU a giant black brick thats connected via power cable to the 360? Its not inside of the 360.
dont use a cooling fan it voids the warranty http://www.engadget.com/2006/10/27/n...-360-consoles/ I think its going in reverse of the exhaust fans.

funny... my friend's brother has an xbox which he's used with the intercooler since he got it, one of them broke and he brought it back to the store to get it replaced, then his second one broke recently, which he sent back to microsoft to get replaced. Apparently he claims they sent him back a brand new one with an extra heatsink. But every exbox he's broken has used the intercooler. even his newer one. If it voids your warranty then why didn't they tell him that? Straaaaaange...

read the link posted by cr9ck. It says that intercoolers leave scorch marks.

Yeah, and it also overvolts the power brick to some effect, every 360 my friend had with the cooler went RRoD

The intercooler takes power from the 360, which isn't good as the 360 wasn't meant to have a device sap power from its power supply.

My 360 is stored inside a wooden cabinet. And it has the worst heat flow ever. You literally could heat up food if you left it in their. And I have never had either of my Xbox's, my 360, my PS2, my Gamecube, or my N64 overheat. And multiple ones have been on at once. The only issue I have ever had was DVD reading issues on one of my two Xbox's (non-360's) and I have horrible airflow. Don't bother risking your warranty for cooling.

the fans don't go in the opposite direction, and it doesn't overvolt the powersupply. what it will do is sap a couple milliamps from the powersupply. it doesn't steal power from the 360, it just takes a little extra from the power supply. i'm sure the powersupply wasn't designed to only accommodate the 360 hardware alone. they must have left a little headroom for peripherals like controllers and the hard drive, so the 3 tiny fans in the intercooler won't hurt.
i have heard that it somehow burns or melts the xbox casing. i'm not even sure how that's possible, so i can't comment on that. i can say its loud as hell. i have one myself and can't justify using it. and the answer to your actual question of RRoD: it can cause a temporary hardware (3 quadrant) RRoD if the connection for the power pass through is loose or has bad contact. this happened to me before and i just wiggled it a little.. problem solved. if i were you i would take it out of that cabinet and not use an intercooler. another idea is getting the pelican cooler with a separate power supply, and it also has a bunch of other cool stuff like integrated usb hub, vga, etc.
