Default how can i use the xbox 360 hd-dvd player on my computer's monitor?

so i bought the hd-dvd player and a couple of movies because they were super cheap($40 for the player and $10 per movie) so i was wondering how i could play the movies through my monitor because as far as i know my computer's monitors is a 1080p monitor, its a gateway p-7811fx laptop. if you can help me with this i would greatly appreciate it.

I don't think many if any laptops have VGA in , just VGA out. If you had a desktop it would be possible.

Its USB, and all you should have to do is download the driver from M$

Edit: Vista should detect it as a HD DVD drive already. Unfortunatly for playback to work eveyrthing has to be HDCP compliant. That includes processor, OS, Video card, and monitor.

I've done this before. Yes you can. I'm not sure if MS has official drivers for PC or not, but there was some hacked drivers to make it work. You don't have to worry about hdcp b/c of how the 360 was originally released! just plug it in usb and watch those hd dvd's!

how would i do that? i plugged in the player into my laptop via usb and all it does is detect the player and dvd but it wont play it, so how do i do that? also, since im not using the hdmi cable would it still play as a 1080p as long as my monitor is 1080p?

Do you have HD DVD playback software? I see you have Vista, so that should not be the problem or drivers either.

Well when I first done this there was a driver that was used. Since this was not the original intent of the drive, there aren't any official drivers, but there was a driver developed to deploy playback for windows. If you checkout www.xbox-scene.com you can can do a search and it should have some info on the specific driver to enable what you are trying to achieve. if you have irc you can check out xbins on efnet.
