Default HDTV for 360: worth it?

I've been thinking of buying a 360 this christmas, but I definitely don't have an HDTV. I have a pretty descent sized CRT TV (35''+ I'm not too sure about the size, I'll measure later and report) that was good for a PS2 . Since the 360 obviously looks best in HD, is it worth buying it even though I don't have an HDTV?

The 360 looks amazing on HD, no doubt about it. However if you are at a standstill, consider this; Why are you buying the console?

If you are buying it because there are certain games you like on the 360, you will be fine with your CRT until you get an HDTV. If you are just buying it out of impulse, wait a bit.

Yes it is worth buying regardless. Definitely yes.

IMO, HD is overrated. If your TV is decent quality, and looks sharp enough on regular TV channels, then you'll be fine. Playing a game in HD vs. Regular is a bit odd. It doesn't use higher res textures or anything, no new complex shaders, it's just the same game that's a bit sharper (a lot sharper if you play in 1080p)

I certainly don't think not having an HDTV should make you reconsider your purchase. The 360 is an awesome console regardless, with many great games and an online system that has the competition playing catch-up.

Yea i think my TV looks great for TV channels/viewing so it would be okay i guess.

How bout if I bought a 24'' monitor (maybe for both 360 and PC gaming). I heard some monitors can be great for console playing.

I play my Xbox360 the same place I use my computer, which is a Samsung 58" 1080p Plasma TV. Before this, it was an old Sony Wega 32" CRT -truth be told, the TV doesn't change the effect of next generation gaming. The high resolution textures, the lighting, the shaders; all of these things can also be appreciated on your old TV, simply in a different manner. Make no mistake, at some point, you should consider moving into the HD era, things look pretty crisp this side of the flat screen; but you won't be thinking about a better TV as you play your games -simply amazed at how life like they seem despite.

I highly recommend a good 24" widescreen monitor for the 360; it's an excellent choice and your PC will love you for it too.

dude need you ask more? the res difference is soooo noticeable and the image is soo cool and clear.

if you wanna see the difference then get a DVI to HDMI converter and plug up the xbox to a DVI compatible monitor the xbox should sort out the rest and you will see the difference. Make sure the monitor is LCD not TFT.

The reason i say monitor is cause PC monitors are all HD well the LCD and CRT ones are anyway
