Default Xbox 360 cable for PC use?

I want to use my xbox 360 controller on my PC for some games and I was wondering if this would do just fine. I know it charges the controller but does it also allow plug n play for the controller?

When I plugged my wired 360 controller to my PC, it worked without any drivers/softwares. I say it's plug and play.

Technically it should, but you'll need the drivers for it.

The play and charge cable Does NOT allow you to use your wireless 360 controller on your PC you need a special dongle .

BountyHead is right, I made the mistake of trying that before doing any research. Waste of $15

Indeed, The only way to use the wireless controller is to use the wireless adapter.

yea u will need the wireless adapter in order to use a wireless controller, the play & charge won't do anything more than charge your controller from any usb port. if you have a wired controller, you don't need to buy anything more, since it's already usb.
