Default XBox 360 Disc Read problems

Hey guys,

I am not sure if my XBox is failing or not, or what I ought to do at this point.

Most of the time my movies and games play just fine, but lately I've been having my games either freeze or it'll pop-up and say Disc read error.

I bought my 360 about a year ago around September, so I was under the impression it was in the "fixed" batch where the heat sink was fixed and all that. I've only had one RRoD, and all I did was turn off my 360 and turn it back on and it was fine and never ran into a red ring again.

My 360 also makes awful noises when spinning discs. Sounds like it's stopping it and spinning it again and it sounds like two rough pieces of plastic rubbing on each other. Any idea what I need to do? Should I try putting in a CD lens cleaner, or should I go straight to talking to XBox? Or should I just save up and get a new one? I don't know what people usually do.

Blah... GREAT system, but man, they should have done more testing on the parts :-P oh well. I actually work in the call center where 800-MY-XBOX goes, so I will probably bug one of the people who work here to see what the procedure is. Thanks Fallen!

When that happened to me (the day after NHL came out, i tried to play it again) i just cleared my cache and it started working.

Quote:
HEXUS.gaming reports that a cache clear code has been discovered for the Xbox 360 hard drive via the dashboard's system blade. To perform the function, access 'memory' in the system blade, and then highlight the hard drive. Now press: Y, X, X, LB, RB, X, X. The following message should appear: "Do you want to perform maintenance on your Xbox 360 storage devices?"

If you initiate maintenance, the hard drive's cache will be cleared, including all software updates. Theoretically, this function could be used to un-update Oblivion in order to regain access to the unlimited gold and item duplication glitches. Note: we have not tested this function.

I did that and NHL 09 started working. Try it, or at least look into it.

Actually, I called up 800-4MYXBOX yesterday, and this is exactly what they had me do. Except it was XX-LB-RB-XX, so no Y is necessary. Works great so far. And to fix the loud disc drive, I just put my XBox horizontally instead of vertical and I haven't heard it act up.
