JJ, the manager from Game Stop called me and told me to come in with my console. I brought it in with all the original peripherals and packaging. When I was there he got on the phone with his district manager while I was there. He explained the whole situation very fairly and accurately. After a brief consideration, the DM said "I really suggest that you decline an exchange since there's no way we can verify if the console was actually faulty before we sold it and he never returned the console within the 30 day limit." After a little back and forth banter, the call ended and JJ looked a little dismayed and I was very upset.

JJ looked at me and said... "You know what... I can't in good concience screw you over. Let's get you changed out." He took my console, gave me another refurbished one, and asked me to call him immediately if there are any issues.

I took it home and everything's been great. Left 4 Dead has been taking up all my time today. I just wanted to give a shoutout to JJ at Game Stop in Roseville, CA. He really went out on a limb for me and helped me out. I'll definitely be patronizing that store from now on and I'll be writing a letter to compliment him to the corporate office.

Thanks for all the advice guys, I'm glad it was a happy ending.

Awesome. I suggest a thank you card to JJ. Im being serious too. He went out of his way to help you against his superiors wishes. SO go out of your way to thank him appropriately.

Call his credit card company they returned his money canceled the card and said it was stolen thus Microsoft was had to return money to the credit card company or was notified of the situation and heres the tricky part THEY BANNED THE CONSOLE!!!
I can't help but think you didn't really read my post that you quoted. I acknowledged the fact that it could have been something else, such as a mistake on Microsoft's behalf. It's happened before.

But... it was after 30 days so your SOL anyways.

well you want an argument, you got one, i will keep as clean as i can.

a NEW xbox 360 will come with a free trial of xbox live that is 30 to 60 days.
A used xbox will not come with a free trial if the previous owner used it.
also the free trial comes with a time limit, the expire date is printed right on the card.
i never used the one that came with my regular xbox.

xbox live is a paid service you log on to by an internet connection
with diffrent levels of MEMBERSHIP.
the prefered membership level is GOLD.

now you state it is not a fully functional product.
what part of his product UNIT is broken, not working, not functioning

Im glad the guy at gamestop worked with you.

That is the best answer I have read yet. IF MS will tell you when the console was banned, then there is proof positive that you did not mod the 360 and the store sold you something that was defective. Good luck in getting MS to give you that information though. I have read threads where people supposedly get banned for no reason, and they call MS and all MS will tell them is that the ban is permanent and they are SOL.

I disagree. This unit was sold defective. Game Stop should have never sold it in the first place. .
I disagree with you. The way store policies work is that you have 30 days to return it if there is anything wrong with it. Regardless if you received the product that way or not. I doesn't matter how you feel. By walking into the store and shopping there. You agree to the stores policy. And being that he is 3 months outside of purchase the store is going to view it as he caused the ban and is just trying to pull a fast one.

Thats how retail works buddy. Sometimes going up the ladder helps but if your 3 months out. Chances are even the regional manager is probably gonna tell you to call MS.
