I am pretty sure the 360 does not need a crossover cable like the original xbox did and it just needs a standard ethernet. I think i remember seeing this in the 360 manual somewhere.

Ah, yeah, my experience is limited to the original xbox. I decided to build my own computer and switch to PC gaming rather than pick up the 360.

The router should take care of the crossover anyways, so you won't have to worry about that. You do not need to connect the phone line, you shouldn't need internet to play on the LAN.

Haha funny thing is my friends did this at my birthday this year. I had no idea since it was a surprise, but when i came down i saw another tv and xbox 360 beside mine. We just connected both to my router and we used live normally. We created a custom game and we were set, system link wasn't neccessary.

yep that is the router i'm talking about

yea and to connect 2 you have to use a crossover but for 4 way you need ethernet cables
if this works it will be epic but mate did it for his birthday it was epic but i think i have out done him here he had 2 xbox 360 and 2 tiny 20" tvs .
I'm going to have a full hd 46" samsung a 32" hd ready and 2 20" tvs and four xbox 360's
