You can try increasing accel. lock up, soften rear rebound, and keep your negative camber reasonable in back. Many other factors come into play, depending on the layout or car...but the big thing is throttle modulation.
Yes, I found throttle control quite important, and helps quite a bit.

Either the PI score in this game is so messed up it's not funny or the difficulty settings need some serious tweaking. I will admit I'm not the perfect driver. But if I set the difficulty to hard against the CPU I'm getting outrun on straights by cars that have PI ratings nearly 100 less than mine. On the same race if I set it to medium I will win the race by a mile.

I want to play it on hard for the challenge, but when the choice is restarting a race 15 times on hard or trying it 2 or 3 on medium... the answer is pretty clear.
I found the difficulty gap between hard and medium a bit big as well. I'm racing on the hardest difficulty for everything except AI is on medium, but hard can be a bit fraustrating at times.

I'm currently attempting the A-class championship with my Mustang Cobra GT500. I love the car to death and I am enjoying the challenge that comes with having it upgraded to A600, the car is super difficult to drive and it's awesome that I've had to change the way I play because of this thing, it is even forcing me to figure out how to tune cars to make this thing controllable. No more all gas or all brake racing for me, feathering is definitely the key with this thing or else you are going to go sliding everywhere.

If they are outrunning you they just put more money into performance stuff. I know on alot of hard to control cars (anything Rear wheel drive for me) I max out the tires/handling stuff before I even touch the engine. If you did this as well but the AI cars are upgraded with engine stuff they will definitely outrun you.

that said, I also hate the 3 AI levels. I dominate really really easily on medium but on hard if I even make one bad corner I am screwed and have to race it over, which is pretty frustrating.

DUDE that is probably my problem. You are a genius haha.
I generally upgrade handling first and max out the class with handling mods rather than speed mods.

My E class Miata tears up corners, but gets decimated on straights. If I miss a corner badly it's over until the next set of corners.

Yeah later on in the class races you really need to worry about a good balance between performance and handling upgrades.

It is sort of like squeezing toothpaste out of it's tube, but instead of toothpaste, its fire.

I like the IS-F overall, M3 GTR for drifting.

I was going around a speedway track, and I went by a car, completely tipped over, perfectly balanced on it's side. I took pictures from three angles and positions, because it was so weird, and so that I had proof that I didn't just catch it while it was flipping. I am having trouble uploading them.

I really like to do an AWD conversion on a RWD car, and then put the front torque to like %5; this way, you get incredible traction, but you can tune out the understeer/lack of turn-in.

AWD cars are nuts in this game. Of the three I have picked up it's really easy to tune the understeer out with the right upgrades/tuning.

A lot of the RWD cars require some serious tuning to be non-drifting machines.

my E92 M3 has a stock engine, only like ~430hp, but i cannot control it with my new microsoft steering wheel, its craziness. im gonna have to do some major tuning.

maybe ill try doing an AWD conversion. that sounds like a good idea.
