Exclamation How I fixed an Unfixable Xbox 360! Guide, Pics!

Hey guys, I am going to show you how I fixed the red ring of death (may not be permanent, as usually only hardware changes result in permanent fix, how long though I don't know)! I posted this to help anyone that may be experiencing a similar problem.

Well as some of you know consoles is not my thing, all I can say is that I hate controllers and I hate low frame rates

Now that I got that off my chest, I am going to show you how a fixed my Teachers Xbox 360. This Xbox was given to him because it was claimed unfix able. It is one of the first ones made and it supposedly has not worked since it was bought a few years ago. The main problem with it is the red rings of death, and supposedly everything has been attempted to fix it, towel trick, new thermal paste, penny trick, x clamp fix, all to no avail. Well here is how I fixed it

(Sorry for bad camera)

Fist off I noticed that one of the fans would not work for a while, but then it would start and the other would stop. So I tested for current I found that the ground was good to the rear exhaust fans but the motherboard wasn't regulating the voltage properly.

Solution:

I soldered the two a cable to a constant 12v source, and fed it to the red and brown wires, which are the voltage wires on the two exhaust fan. (Be warned fans will run at 100% at all times, only due if a must)

After doing this I unplug the ground to the fans and let the Xbox overheat until there was two read lights on the left side. Unplugged power to xbox and let it cool for 30minutes.

Well guess what it didn't work, it would work fine outside the case, but if I put it back in it's shell, the games would crash in a couple of minutes, I also got the three red light again. Nothing I tried would fix it, reapplying thermal paste, ect.

Then I had the idea to use an old computer fan since I had found the 12v source. I installed the fan and overheated the xbox as before, And:

And guess what, it worked perfectly. Played dirt 2 for a couple of hours to test and left it downloading all night, have ran it 16 hours so far in it's shell and not a single crash, or freeze up.

Maybe now I can play video games at school!

I hope someone find this helpful

Awesome fix that I haven't seen often, but there's no proof that this is permanent. Basically all you're doing is running a new source for air intake, which is not exactly the problem with these consoles.

It may run for as long as you've said, but that's not considered proof that this is permanent, so it's misleading.

I've fixed consoles that have lasted over a year and then failed again. There is no valid permanent solution to fixing a 360 console, and this method is definitely not one that is considered permanent.

It's still amazing to fix a console, and I still do it for friends, but they will eventually fail again.

I agree with you, only new hardware will yield a permanent fix. I didn't say it would be permanent either, but it sure as been working great.

Your first post when I read it said it was a permanent fix

It's still an awesome fix. My best fix that I did, was sanding down the standoffs on the case, and then applying credit card pieces to the outside of the CPU and GPU chips, which helps give a 100% proper support on all sides for the heatsink, as well as an X-Clamp fix with new paste. That was the longest it ever lasted for me was a little over a year from originally doing it.

They don't really fail anymore if you buy them brand new. It took them long enough to release a proper console, but the Jasper revisions are flawless to me.
