Default Weird issue with Xbox (not RRoD)

Hello all,

I have an issue with my Xbox that I have learned to live with, but I think it is fixing to cause some serious trouble. About 4 months ago, my Xbox gave me an issue where it would not read any disk I would insert into the drive. Since the warranty was already voided (yes, this is an oldie, I've had it since the day they came out, no issues (until this)) I promptly opened her up and tried a few things to see what the deal was. Turns out, the drive can't spin up on its own anymore and requires me to spin the disk myself to get it started.

My question is, since my mother wants the Xbox for herself while I'm away in college... (and an open-top box isn't aesthetically pleasing, nor do I think she could get used to spinning a disk lol)
... How can I grease up the spool? Is there anything I can do to help this along? Any input would be appreciated

If its an xbox 360, look on top of the drive and figure out what drive / version it is then go look around on ebay for a working one... when you get it take out the PCB out of the "broken" one and swap it with the one you got off ebay.

that will not work unless you spoof the drives firmware and key to match the mobo. its easy to do but you cannot just drop in anoother dvd drive and have it work without doing so

no need if you swap out the pcb, sounds like a problem with the motor. Best option long term is to replace the drives mechanical components. I had a similar problem with my drive and had to replace it, easy install IMHO.

edit: just make sure you get the exact same drive
