I have gotten to the part where I cleaned the old artic silver thermal silicon off the CPU and GPU and I decided to test the 360 without the heat syncs on and the new silicon yet to be put on, I pluged it in and when its starts the 3 lights flash and then it flashes 2 lights(xbox laying flat) and everytime it starts up it does that plus the fans start up go really fast and then shut off...and the 2 lights just flash. The CPU and GPU aren't even getting hot... HELP

Buy a new xbox. You have no chance of fixing the one you have for longer than say.. a month.
__________________I've tried to fix many xboxs, and succeeded many times, but they will all just break again no matter what thermal paste you use, how you apply the "x clamp mod", what additional cooling or WHATEVER. lol

Lay your 360 flat. If it's just throwing 2 lights that means it's overheating.
If you can't get it to start after putting the heatsinks back on you should do XCLAMP mod. If you don't feel up to the task, I'll do it for $30 bucks for you. ![]() If you give you 360's adequate space (like a ft all around) and keep it off the floor so it doesn't clog the heatsink they generally will last until they overheat again. So as long as you take some compressed air like maybe everyone 6 months to get the dust out it's golden. This just speaking of the RROD issue; other stuff still breaks like the laser lens and belts in the DVD drives. Anyhow, it's fixable so don't run out and buy a new 360.

Just do the towel trick. It actually works. Granted it won't last but a week or so.
__________________I've done it 3 times to my Xbox and it has worked everyt time. I know eventually it's just gonna completely die. But hell I would have to purchase a new one anyway. So mine as well delay as long as I can.

Don't use the towel trick.I could go in length about why it's bad but your at least going to damage the capacitors on your mobo by turning your 360 into a EZ-Bake oven. The solder will eventually fail to reconnect using the towel trick. It's not a matter of if it's a matter of when. Cleaning the heatsinks and reapplying thermal paste will probably get your 360 going. If your getting only 2 red lights flashing that means it's overheating but has a connection between the cpu/mobo. Otherwise it will just RROD repeatedly.

Take a heatgun and just hold it to the gpu for about 3 min. then reapply heatsinks with thermal paste. Worked for my 360 and its being going strong for about 2 years

Pretty sure I stated that the towel trick would not last forever. Pretty sure I stated that the towel trick would eventually kill the 360 lol.
__________________Pretty sure I also stated that it didn't matter because I'm going to have to buy a new one at some point anyway. Way I see it, mine as well delay as long as possible.

The only RRoD I've had, is when it wouldn't turn on, It flashed red and then turned off, I fixed it by plugging it into a wall socket rather than an extension and it works perfectly.
