I have a out of warranty xbox 360 that worked well for about a year then got the rrod, I then removed the xclamps and applied the fix with the screws and washers and it worked well for about a month and now when ever I press the power button the xbox seems to power up for a couple seconds and then die (the fans spin up, the drive makes a noise, and the lights on the front start to spin like a non-rrod xbox) but then it suddenly looses power and will keep turning on and off rapidly. Then only way to stop this is to unplug the power cable or hold down the power button until it stops and then it will try and start normally again and get to either the same or a similar point and start going on and off again. All while it is going on and off the power supply light is going from green to orange to green and back again.
__________________I have tried about 4 different power cables, tried redoing the rrod fix, tried unplugging the hard drive and cd drive to minimize power consumption but nothing has worked....any ideas?? any input would be greatly appreciated, I just ordered another broken one to try and pin down the problem. Thanks

Ony so many RRoD 'fixes' will work until it permanently fails, looks like you'll need to get a new one.

I've never seen this issue, could it be an unsecure "rf module" (the front usb-esque plugin with the power button on it) connection that's turning it on and off?

yeah sounds like either a bad connection or a short somewhere to me.

ya thats true i never thought about the module that turns it on and off, I will be able to check that once my new one comes in, but it seems to me more like a short to me somewhere but I have never seen a short happen like this before normally it would be consistent when in turning on and off, instead it gets to different points and will sometimes fun with out any lights but displaying no video at all.

Make sure your dashboard card in the front is not damaged and securely plugged into the mobo. Should be screwed to the metal case with 3 small black screws.
