So I want to connect my Xbox to my monitor via HDMI but get sound to connect to my PC and play out my speakers. Is their a way to rig up the cables that come with the 360 and just use them for sound? The plug is to fat to plug that and the HDMI in at the same time but I was curious if you can just pop the plastic off and still use it or if it would be easier to just but the av out plug for the 360 off ebay.
I thought their was an article for this already but I couldn't find it.

Yea but I don't have speakers in my monitor.... That's why they need to be separate.

You would need to get a Gigabyte SPDIF in adapter for your p35 board.... but from what I've heard they were either discontinued or didnt work. I tried one personally and to no avail.. Another option would be to buy a sound card that has a Spdif In...
Depending on if its toslink or coax you may also need an adapter to convert it. If I could recommend an easier but more expensive way... consider making the investment in a low-end a/v receiver/amplifier and get a decent set of bookshelf speakers... that way you could use microsoft audio adapter for the xbox to bring the toslink to the receiver and use any set of home theater speakers or a pair of headphones.... You could even pipe the spdif out from your PC into the new receiver for a sound solution and stop using computer speakers...

Hmm the spdif to sound card might be an easier/cheaper option. I have crap speakers that I was going to use and I also would like to use my headphones if I could. If i get the plug for the 360 off ebay it'll cost around ~$10 but then I have to find a way to get that to connect to my PC.... Any ideas on a cheap but quality sound card?

Just use the RCA plugs and connect them directly to your speakers with this or something like it.

My xbox came with a dongle that has rc inputs and a toslink input that plugs into the normal slot, when you are using hdmi. Do you not have one of these?
Its pictured here with the hdmi cable --> http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/x...60hdmiavcable/

I don't remember getting one, but I'll have to check the box when I get home. I'm bidding on the 360 av adapter right now on Ebay along with a couple others. Hope I get it.
