I then went on to Xbox's website and found that my warranty has expired. But when I click "Request a Repair," the price at the bottom says 0.00$. What's this about? Is microsoft going to scam me out of 99 dollars if I request this repair?

Yes, they'll know. I ONLY did it because it wasn't under warranty.

RRod's due to an overheating issue i think.
everyone seems to say that. i can't confirm for sure that it's due to high temps since i don't own an xbox and neither do i intend to. but according to most people, reseating the heatsinks and/or getting more powerful fans are solutions to the problem.

My main question was this 0 dollar repair fee. Has anyone ever had an expired warranty but still been able to request a repair for free?

The Xbox 360 is covered for 3 years if you get the RROD/E74 errors. The "warranty expired" message is for the standard 1 year warranty.
