Last and finaly update: 16/03/11
I have completly rework what was in the case.
Out of necessity I revived it.

Update:04/12/10
As it seems that this is going to be quite delayed, I'm going to finish the project as it is, and hopefully in a couple of months, I'm going to start a new project after I collect a few more things.

Update: 28/11/10
Due to missing shipment, the build is on delay

Update: 30/11/10
Well it seems that the package has been "found" and is currently in brazil by the USPS and the brazil postal offices.
That is great, except its on the other end of the world...
PPCs say its a USPS error in marking, and its actually in Israel where it belongs, except there is no information about the package on the Israel postal offices site.
I'm a bit skeptic about it. I will verify tomorrow (hopefully).

Hello.

I am pretty new to any modifications.
Meaning I have never done any

Getting a strong rig requires a strong cooling, and having a big black box of a case, just invites a good cooling platform. Aka, water-drowning... ermm... I mean cooling.

The main issue with the case, except it being awesome, is the lack of space or support for radiators inside. Meaning there is no space, nor options to put a radiator inside, without losing the front fans.

What I decided to do, after seeing this done before (but on a larger scale), I decided to mod the case to allow inserting the big radiator inside.
Its a simple mod, but without completely disassembling the case, its not as easy as it looks.
It main requires cutting the middle bracket to allow inserting the radiator+fans in that space, plus a lot smarter cable management to make it look big.

Specs of the computer components:
  • Cpu: I7-920
  • Motherboard: Gigabyte X58A-UD3R
  • Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws 2000MHZ 6GB set
  • Graphic card: Nvidia GTX 470
  • PSU: Corsair HX650
  • Case: Lian-Li PC-X2000
  • Monitors: Sony HDTV
Specs of watercooling components:
  • Cpu block: EK Supreme HF
  • Pump: MCP655-B 12v - Bitspower dual head
  • Radiator: Black Ice GT Stealth 420
  • Reservoir: EK bay
  • Fans: Yate Loon 140mm fans 140CFM (Red leds)
Updates list:
1. Picture of case before.
2. Stripped (porn!) and starting to cut.
3. Cut done. Still dirty.
4. Cleaned, Radiator and fans inside.
5. Setting up the loop and testing.
6. Almost everything installed. System is up and running.
7. Extra items arrive. Second pump, fitments.
7. A couple of EK blocks arrived. Tested placing one on the GTX465
8. Complete rework after I decided to revive the project for other means.

Finaly picture of the case:

Thank you for reading and checking this out.
Hope I won't fail too much at modding the case

Some progress today

Computer before gutting:

(Yes, cable management is hard
)

Everything outside, run and tested (49K vantage ftw)

Empty, taped, and let the cutting begin!

Lower part cut and done.

Still need to finish the second cut above the radiator's location, so it can fit better.

I have been trying to figure out a way to get a radiator inside my x2000. That is a great idea you have there. Do you think it will heat up the inside a lot, or will it evacuate out the back enough?

I would like to see some case temps when you are done. You think you could post those?

Sure.
Basically, I'm not afraid about heat inside the case.
There are going to be 5x140cfm fans on the radiator, which isn't that thick anyway, so heat clearance should be good.

Well I don't have the installation of all the stuff inside, since I didn't find my camera at first.

Anyhow, its been too long, and the loop was running fine and I finally found the time.

So, with less words more pics, here is the system:

Still need a bit more cable management, replace the fan controller for a 6 channels controller, and maybe remount the cpu block, so I can apply the little heatsink with fan of the motherboard.

Most likely I will do it tomorrow, so I can call the build complete.

I have never sleeved cables, but considering this is also the first time I have water-cooled, this isn't so bad to do it as well

Going to add a second PSU for all the pumps/fans/ physx gpu, is also going to be a first time for me, wiring two PSUs together.

The main problem, is finding where to house the second radiator. This is going to give me a hard time.
I can use the koolance adapter, which is very nice, but it means sticking it outside. I don't have room to house all the HDs, so I can't get totally rid of the bottom area to house the rad there.

Oh well. Items aren't going to pop in here very quickly, so I have time to think.

First order of items (second pump, D5 dual head accessories, PSU connectors) is on its way.
Second will be the raid, one gpu block and some connectors, and maybe the sleeving. Third will be the rest.

Wow, for a first time WC you did a great job!

I am looking to WC my X-2000 but I am having the same problem trying to find where to house everything.

I was thinking housing it behind the case, and building a simple shroud around it to hide it all. I also have contemplated building a base underneath it. I have some sketches lying around somewhere... I should try and find them and post them here.

That would be nice.

I was considering either building a black pexiglass housing for the next radiator at the top, or a metal framework at the bottom covered with pexiglass for the looks.
Putting at the top might be a problem, as I will have to rewire everything inside, and I don't really want to.

Well, I will think of all the options and see.

I was also thinking of the koolance pre-made cooling system, but at 899$ before blocks, its more fun to make my own system.

For the front of the case I'm using 5 yate loon D14SH-124R (2K rpm 140cfm) which are very nice. Not that noisy, as my gpus are way louder atm.

For the second radiator, I hadn't decided yet. I have tons of s-flex fans lying around, enough for push pull if I'm also going to use a shroud.

Got a package from PPC.com

A couple of items like tubing, and a few little items from bitspower:

Fitments:

A second pump, and a double head:

I should get a couple of blocks and a few more fitments on sunday, tho I have an issue with the sender. We will see.

In a few days I will make the last order. That means in in 2-3 weeks, I can start building.
