Had already upgraded to a 5820K a year before hand since every one was saying how much of a improvement id get with SLI 980ti's. But for 99% of games I didnt notice any difference.

thanks for sharing that... that confirms what I've been thinking... that a well tuned fx could in fact feed an extreme gpu setup properly.. Sorry to hear yours died... I'm hoping mine hangs on a bit longer... I'm hoping since mine doesn't take much voltage to hit 5ghz that it will last longer...

Should also add that I played in 1440p and dsr 4K and only mainstream games since they had to support SLI.

I have a fairly early 9590 that was a bit of a chore to get stable at 5GHz on all cores.

Needed ~2.69 VDDA for the vcore to hold steady at 1.51v, plus a lot of cooling.

I've never actually tried to adjust vdda... do you think it could help me get 5.1 stable without adding as much vcore? just wondering.

In my limited experience with VIshera, VDDA needs to be increased as one nears or surpasses 5GHz to mitigate vcore droop. Trying to get 5GHz+ on all cores required obscene vcore with my FX-9590 + Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 until I put 175-200mV extra into VDDA.

So yeah, definitely worth a shot.

great... I'll give it a shot and see if I can get away with lower vcore then on my 5.1 profile thumb.gif

Great write up, my 8350 has been relegated to plex server duty but if I was still using it in my main rig I would be all over this.

my son's pc has a poor clocker so this really helped him a lot... his barely would hit 4.4 ghz.. we actually backed down to 4.2 in favor of a good cpu/nb OC and that netted him a noticeable improvement even before we did frame rate tests...

I added a screenshot of what only a memory and cpu/nb OC netted me... it was much more than the core clocks OC netted... very interesting results... my sons with only 4.2ghz on the cores does about the same as mine does at stock with 4.7ghz on all cores... memory speed and cpu/nb speed seems to really go a long way in this game and may others I've noticed

ok... sorry for the imidiate post again, but I just added the cinebench results and they very closely reflect what I was seeing in games... the cpu/nb seems to play a big role in getting FX to perform properly.... even disabling turbo core tech I was able to get higher scores across the board just by overclocking the cpu/nb and ram moreso than overclocking the cores themselves.
