Does this all mean that it's not really worth the trouble to update to Bios 1.42vx if everything else works like a charm (I'm running a MSI MEG CRT, 2950X @ 4.25 and DDR4 @ 3400 w/"fast" timings) ?
I can advise to be updated only in extreme cases, when there is a real need

@1usmus Would you imagine there will be a BIOS Update soon to the MEG for the support of the Ryzen 3000 series ?

hi Mate!
Sorry I rarely get in touch...

it is very early to talk about this, but support will be there. At the moment it is an early engineering bios. When there is something important or stable, I will definitely write.

Semi surprised that MSI have not released a BIOS update for the MEG Creation regarding compatibility with the 3000 Series. That being said, support will be focused on the new boards as well as fixing some of the BIOS bugs that seem to be causing issues. Kind of looking forward to any firmware update that comes to this board to work alongside the Windows fix in 1903 that is supposed to improve performance on the 2990WX.

Well, the 3000 series update does not apply until some Threadripper 3000s are on the horizon... MSI support so far is garbage so I would not hold my breath if I were you... On the AM4 side, Asus showed how it's done by enabling PCIe 4.0 on the non X570 boards while MSI is still playing with their wieners.

You know what, I forget that it is TR4, so yeah no update for a while ! As for PCI-E 4, Not really a biggie, It will be half gimped on the current platform anyway.

Tom's Hardware had an article less than a month ago about AMD Epyc 32c - 64c 'pricing' along with Intel's server offerings per a Belgian online sales outfit (as always, grains of salt)...seems to bode reasonably well for TR3 release time frame and pricing. As to PCIe 4, it seems only (somewhat) important if you run a PCIe daughter card with 4x M.2s; besides PCIe 5 is not too far away, either.
