So going from ganged to unganged RAM the average increase was 18.3 benchmark points, increasing to 4GHz (20x200) there is a whopping 592.4 point increase!

Looking at the results side by side between the stock clock and over clock, its the Physics test (CPU) and combined test which showed the greatest increase with the physics test increasing by 16.9% and the combined score increasing by 10.8% on a 17.6% overclock so it looks like it does scale quite well.

Onto the CPU/NB speed bump now I think!
That's the fun of it , fiddling around and seeing what happens.

Would be hard to find a more enjoyable platform for these shenanigans too.

New record for me, 9569:

https://www.3dmark.com/fs/17251582

Having trouble getting a 2600mhz NB speed, so the settings for the above run were:

19x213
1.4625v

12x NB multi
1.25v

You will have to set NB really high. will make it run HOT too.

I have tweaked a few more things, actually dropped to a 11x NB multi and then increased the FSB to 215, here is the current clock I am using, CPU voltage is set to 1.5 which is very high but doesn't seem to be the case of all of the voltage is at the CPU:

https://valid.x86.fr/i93agr

New highest benchmark score for a X4 965 and single RX470 of 9,610 - up from an initial average score of 8,692.3 so almost 1000 point improvement - mostly with the physics test.

https://www.3dmark.com/fs/17259645

I bought a stick of 1600mhz ram, however it doesn't seem to work so will try and return it - looks like I would only need a 4GB stick to run the benchmarks so could look to get a faster set of RAM however the small FSB boost seems to be helping.

Worth noting that the Extreme and Ultra Firestrike tests are actually easier on the CPU as its the GPU that's the limit and there are less frames being pushed to the CPU.

Highest temp I have seem during the benchmarks has been at 57C, most runs the max temp even at 1.5v is 55C which is the limit (max the chip can take is 63c though).

I can't seem to push past the current barrier, my goal was to try for a 4.25GHz setting which would mean a 25% overclock but running at over 4GHz is pretty good. Worth noting that I am able to keep a 4GHz overclock at around 1.45v just using the multiplier with the stock 200 reference clock. This seems the limit on mine at the moment, the BIOS on this motherboard isn't very good as I can't control the voltage directly - I am using AMD overdrive.

Worth also noting that every time the system won't POST I have to remove the graphics card to get to the CMOS jumper!

Just having a look to see what sort of other benchmark scores are out there for the X6 (which is where I am lacking in terms of CPU brute force), looks like the highest score for an top end X6 1100T with a single RX470 is at 9858.

https://www.3dmark.com/fs/11654134

With the easier to find X6 1055T its at 9794

https://www.3dmark.com/fs/16741212

This means that the jump with the 2 additional cores would bag an additional 248 points.

Interestingly, comparing the 2 scores the 1100T score has a higher score for the physics score (extra 40% on score with 50% more cores!) but the graphics performance isn't the same, they also have the 8GB RX470 card whreas I have the 4GB card with the slower memory.

https://www.3dmark.com/compare/fs/11654134/fs/17259645

Just goes to show that I am probably near the top end of the result I can get, looks like I am also around 200 points clear of the X4 955 CPU which is good to know - next on the list is probably RAM timings, I have matched sets of Corsair XMS3 which seem to also have an XMP rating on them so might look to match the timings and see if that works.

It's awful... chips so bad dieing in p95...should upgrade to Ryzen. Can't convince People though, it is a huge Improvement.

Who's to say he doesn't have another system? This thread is about overclocking a Phenomm II, not what cpu should he have.

I will be upgrading to Ryzen at some point, I built this current system back in 2010 for around £600 so a fairly budget build, have recently upgraded to an RX470 which the system is currently bottlenecked with but have upgraded to an SSD boot drive so its still very useable.

Plan for me is to see how far I can push this as I am not too worried if the current CPU lifespan is reduced as it will be upgraded at some point soon - have always wanted to run an overclocked PC to 4Ghz - I started overclocking with the Athlon XP back on Socket 462

I am kinda using this CPU as a test rig to learn more about overclocking and see how things like NB frequency can change things in terms of gaming/benchmark performance.

Cool. I had this CPU run at 3.9GHz

Couldnt get it higher no matter what.
Pretty sure I read everywhere that this CPU needs 32-bit system to get any higher to 4 or mainly above it.

Loved this CPU until I got ryzen

Slight tweak in this journey, due to the GPU being bottlenecked quite a lot by the CPU, even at just over 4Ghz (4.085Ghz at the moment), I have managed to nab an X6 1090T processor to swap the X4 965BE out with, was quite cheap, couldn't find a X6 1100T for anywhere near the price so went with the 1090T as its also got an unlocked multiplier and can apparently easily OC to 4GHz on around 1.4v.

More of an interest to see back to back runs with the X4 and X6 at the same OC settings to see how those extra 2 cores might help out - interestingly the highest OCs on the Phenoms are on the X4 with the highest OC being on an X4 955 at 7.192Ghz - it was running at 1.872V though!

I will be upgrading to Ryzen at some point but due to the low cost of the X6 I just wanted to see what it was like, will be interesting to see what sort of FPS increases I get as well in some of the tests to see how much the X4 is bottlenecking the RX470.
