Anybody know the best way to guarantee a Zen 2? I've never bought a CPU at launch (Usually waited for a price drop and some benchmarks) but I REALLY want to guarantee I get one, is there a strategy? (Refreshing a certain store page at midnight on launch day?) Also, has anybody heard anything (besides 5GHz RAM and PCI 4.0) that makes x570 "better" than x470?

If you have some wiggle room on the price there are always quick moving resellers offering new releases on ebay.

You could always have an Amazon window and a Newegg window open and try to grab one from there. If one site sells out, you still have other one open and ready.

This is the first time I've ever thought there might be availability issues with a processor. And with the Intel security flaw demand may be higher yet.

Exactly my point, and with TR nowhere to be found (and Zen 2s rumored to be outperforming TR as well) I have a sneaking suspicion the first batch will be gone QUICK.

If Navi is good then I'll get a Zen 2, if not...

If AMD is serious about selling lots of CPUs their video cards better be good as well.

Many have given up on Nvidia and waiting on Navi but if Navi is crap then they will just hold on to their current systems like I will.

So no rush to get Zen 2 until I see where Navi falls first. So not in your boat per say and let's see where Zen 2 falls say in relation to 2700X before we lose our heads. Also it may be better to wait so some teething issues, which will inevitably be there, are solves with Zen 2, RAM and mobo vendors.

I'm moving from an FX-8350 (with dual 2080 Tis) so there's more urgency on my end to open these up and see what they can do with a top tier CPU.

I wouldn't hold my breath on Navi, as an AMD fanboy who owns three 2080 Ti's, I can say quite the opposite. I've given up on any hope of AMD making a relevant splash in the GPU market (budget cards I'll give to AMD) but generation after rebranded generation, AMD is a hot, power hungry mess of sub par performance that Nvidia cards simply dance around.

Still the same beat up old GCN architecture, coupled with Radeon 600 series (oh boy, more rebranded 400 cards) tells me that Navi is already a dud

It's better to get new platforms such as Zen1 with a bit of delay until issues are resolved. This is the same for any brand and segment, especially boards with new RAM type, etc.
CPUs hardly ever sell out unless it's Intel not selling them to retail, even then it's regional.

Same as above, wait for GPUs and then decide, no sense upgrading unless you already have a great GPU.

Buy where you can buy, simple as that. Some countries have a few shops only, some have many.
If they supply enough as they always do I don't think there will be a shortage, especially a long one like we see with Intel's "9"gen aka renamed 6gen.

Good cards, if not pricey. I'd still wait for reviews and for the teething issues to get ironed out.

As for me, I'm stuck in limbo if Navi 20 (next year) does not run 1440p 144Hz like a champ and at a reasonable price. Maybe Arcturus but by that time my 4 Core CPU and 4GB cards will be bleeding silicone.

Spending $3000 on graphics cards would be in vain if not paired with a CPU that can feed them. I'll take my chances, seeing as this is the third iteration of Zen architecture, I'm sure they have many of the issues ironed out, and there's always warranty/RMA/retail swap if something goes wrong. Really just stuck between the 12 or 16 core model, and x470 or x570 at this point.

Go for 16 cores and x570. That is what I will do if given the chance.

Unless the 12 core is higher clocked (which is what the rumors are) as this will be on a custom water loop and O/C'd
