Upgrading RAM What Kind?

Hey guys!

I am probably going to upgrade to the ryzen 9 3900x as soon as it is released so keep that in mind if any of the options you suggest would make a difference. Side note: would my motherboard be OK with that CPU or do I need to upgrade that as well when I get the new cpu?
I currently have a ryzen 1700 system with:
Asus Crosshair Hero VI
Gtx 1080 ti
and 16gb of this memory:
G.Skill TridentZ RGB Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin SDRAM DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600) F4-3200C14D-16GTZR

I want to upgrade to 32gb, but amazon no longer has that RAM.
I wanted to just get 2 more 8gb sticks of the same memory, but is it better to have 2 16gb or is 4 8gb sticks fine?

I still want RGB and like the TridentZ or even the TridentZ royal so if there is a best option let me know. I am open to other suggestions though.

If needed I could just sell the Ram I have now if that makes the choice easier.

Thanks!

Is Ryzen able to use faster ram now? I don't remember that being an option when I built this system but maybe it was? Or what is the best tridentz RGB memory I can get now with the best timings that'll be good for the 3900x as well?

Declaration are they're supposed to support even 4000MHz, I'd expect them to hit 3866MHz easily.

If you are looking to upgrade just in terms of ram size go for it, but if is for speed I'd wait. Higher speeds is not guaranteed with x370/x470 + zen2. If you check around you'll see the x570 has severe changes in the ram management being able (very very likely) to clock way higher than x370/x470. So you might get a 4000mhz ram now to use with x370/x470 and not even reach 3600mhz with. I believe the new imc of the zen2 will be fine to clock around 3600 with x370/x470 in some scenarios but it stills depends on the topology of the board.

Wrong, both 3900X and 3950X will use Dual Channel, 3900X is already listed on AMD site as a Dual Channel CPU.

Thomasck took a very good note on RAM compatibility. Plus Zen 2 on X370 support is going to be limited.

I'd opt for entire platform exchange actually, for speeding up Infinity Fabric in Ryzens, high bandwidth memory and full new features support.
