Worth upgrading from i7 5820K to R9 3900X?

I got a 5820K @4.6ghz (custom loop 360mm), and 16GB quad channel RAM at 2666 CL15.

For me, this setup has never run into problems (other than having to select boot drive manually).

I only game, and some very basic creative/content creation, so not much use out of the CPU speed.

Does it make sense to upgrade? I was thinking of getting a 3900/C8H/32GB 3600 (these are all the components I need to upgrade) at the end of the year. But the longer I think, the more that I would just waste the 3900's potential on this build.

I don't see games using more than 6c/12t seriously, excluding some of the badly optimized Denuvo titles.

Thoughts?

5820k 4,6ghz + QuadCh RAM is still very strong. Especially for gaming ,u would just waste money on 3900x + dual CH RAM ; and get the same or less fps in games. With 5820k u are fine in next 2-3 years , just save money for VGA upgrade instead.

Take a look at this and then multiply the results by 1.4 or 1.3 for MT/ST to get a rough estimation of the performance delta https://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/2409?vs=2519
If you feel some slow downs in the work or gaming that you do, think about an upgrade. But 6C/12T at 4.6GHz, even the old Haswell-E architecture, is still pretty strong. So thinking about dropping ~$1k on something new for no realy upgrade with games and maybe not great upgrades for other applications is tough to swallow I would say. And keep in mind that the real upgrade path would be Threadripper (3), coming from an Intel HEDT platform. But "very basic creative/content creation" doesn't scream "I need to get rid of this still very capable rig" to me. Especially if you are still fine with 16GB of memory. :-)
I'm upgrading from a 4C/4T 3.6GHz Haswell to a Ryzen 3700x and am hoping for great improvements.

Hi,
Not sure 3900 is looking pretty good
5820 is eol although it did just get a new bios

eBay has new boxed 5960x for about 450.us where as all broadwell-e is still stupid expensive.
6900 800.us 8 core same as 5960x is
6950x really stupid priced at 1200.us+ new skylake-x is cheaper
Not all that sure how well 5960x games at default clocks.

You won't notice any difference, you'd best going for 5960x or 6900x instead, if you want to see boosts in games.

I went from a 7820x to a 3900x and the change in gaming was kind of shocking, the FPS numbers are similar but boy oh boy are the frametimes different, feels way smoother to game on.

Well he has a 5820k, which I also used to have, and performed about the same in games.
