3600mhz ram no improvement over 3200mhz ram until timings

Title says it all. 3700x + MSI X470 Gaming Plus. I went from G.Skill Ripjaws 3200mhz cas 16-19-19-38 (https://pcpartpicker.com/product/Cf9...3200c16d16gvkb) with manual FCLK of 1600 mhz to Patriot Viper Steel 3600mhz cas 18-19-19-39 ( https://pcpartpicker.com/product/ckv...-pvs416g360c7k ) with manual FCLK of 1800 mhz with zero improvement in benches such as cinebench

**EDIT**
Using Ryzen memory calculator to set the timings has given me a boost.

Though honestly I do not recommend 3600 mhz ram as an "upgrade". It's very small performance improvement I guess but not worth the $15 aka 20% increase from 3000/3200 mhz ram

I am in the process of building a new PC with a 3800x and i picked 3600 MHz CL16 RAM for the build but if you are saying there is no point maybe i should just stick with 3200 MHz?

3200 MHz kit i am looking at

3600 MHz kit

Is 3600 MHz no better than 3200 MHz in any game or have you not tested that?

It is either your CAS is a bit higher on the 3600 or the setting is not stable. At same timings, there should at least be a 30 point increase from 3200 to 3600. Talking about Multi-thread bench.

EDIT: Another way to check is to use Aida64 Memory latency test.

I ran memtest for 24h and there is zero increase in cinebench. Like within 1-2 points. I've not played games but I dont notice any improvement at all for the $15 extra. My best bang for buck is the 3000 mhz ram doing 3200mhz same timings as the g.skill

Unless the cas means 3200 cas 16 is as fast as 3600 cas 18 I dont know where yours is 3600 cas 16.

My settings are stable i've tested them many times and even did folding and aida64 stability testing.

Download Aida and check your memory latency for each setting. True in games, you might not see any difference especially for mid or lower end cards. In Cine20 i saw a 45 points increase from 2933 to 3333. Same timings, tho.

I ran mem latency test on 3333 vs 3733 Cl16 in the past using DOCP 3200 timings. Check it out.

Cinebench cares very little about RAM speed/timings (as do most things) and XMP CL16 3200 to XMP CL18 3600 is hardly an upgrade anyway. Most people wouldn't have noticed a difference between CL16 3200 and CL16 3600.

Not to mention if you're setting XMP and calling it a day your motherboard is going to set all secondaries and tertiaries, and your motherboard is going to set them far looser at auto 3600 than auto 3200 to increase compatibility. XMP only sets the primary timings and command rate, the rest is up to your motherboard.

I'd probably return the RAM and spend the money elsewhere if you don't feel like investing the time setting all your timings manually (which even if you do isn't likely to get you huge gains either).

Yes, with the timings that high, your 3600 just about equal my 3333 CL16. I normally use the Calc for anything higher than 3333. Lowest mem lat i've seen on Gen2 is around 62-63 and that's at 3800MHz speed and tight timing.

Gen1+ gets lower even at just 3466 CL14. Does not really matter cos our L3 cache compensates for it. The 3700X has twice the L3 cache of the 2700X.

I just use 3333 DOCP on mine cos i only have a 5700 gpu. Here is my Cine runs.

So I used ryzen memory calculator and there is defintely an improvement when I dropped my timings (but I also entered task manager and turned everything possible off).
