I contacted the seller who told me he didn't have the $$ to refund me and didn't want to pay shipping to return the CPU. I filed a paypal dispute and after he didn't respond they refunded me the entire $90 purchase price.

Now here is my ethical dilemma. I was able to get the cpu to work (It's a "tight" fit and requires some slight pressure to install and difficult to pull out of the socket). It runs fine at stock and will run 4.1 ghz but the case airflow isn't the best (CM Masterbox 5). I honestly wouldn't pay for the CPU and would've returned it before using in the condition received.

So what do you do from here. Use the "fixed" CPU as a freebie or contact the original seller to see if he wants the CPU back and get something on black friday.
Nahhh, keep it or freebie it. It's the sellers fault they didn't respond to the dispute. Sore losses on their part.

Go Gators!

Since you got your money back, I would offer to send the cpu back as long as he is willing to pay you the shipping first.

He had declined multiple times. I only fixed the pins because he wasn't refunding my money and was looking like I may be stuck with it.

So after him not refunding my money when the CPU was damaged due to how he shipped and declining the CPU when he thought it was damaged and sticking me with the faulty product. You would contact him and be like "Oh yeah paypal refunded me the money and I got the CPU to work when you stiffed me do you want to pay shipping to have the CPU back?"

you got it to work and you got your money back, tell him that and tell him if he pays shipping he can have the CPU back. if you tell him that in plain text and he still doesn't want it back then you keep it.

That's my moral issue. $90 isn't a big deal to me and may mean a lot to the other person. My issue is him not refunding without a dispute. However he did not lie to paypal to try to dodge the refund.

I may tell him shipping + $3 packaging (don't want to throw it in a sandwich baggie). I probably have a clamshell AMD laying around and would actually ship it securely.

Pretty much this...

As long as he's willing to pay for shipping and packaging then send it back

That being said, don't have him send it through paypal as if it were him buying something, it'd be a straight money transfer.

So my conscious is clear. He said to keep it and apologized for not refunding immediately. I almost feel bad filing the dispute.

tip of a mechanical pencil is epic for fixing pins. it's just gotta fit in the board once.

also, this is what you get using reddit for anything besides lulz. Use forums with review systems, like H, or our own, etc etc.

pretty sure you could repost this in KidsAreFlippingStupid, on redit.

R.I.P. Zawarudo, may you OC angels' wings in heaven.

That was my sense that he wasn't a jerk, just didn't pack it properly and thought you were trying to stiff him. Seems a decent guy who just got a good lesson.

I honestly believe he knew he made a mistake as I linked him to this thread when I made it (to show him the pictures). He was remorseful immediately. So price for performance to my spare gaming/server build just got better (I dont think it'll kill my board so I'll use the CPU for a bit to see if its stable at stock).
