Moving from 2700x to 3800x, OC advices

Hi guys how are you?

I have a Gigabyte X470 Aourus Gaming 7 Wifi and the 2700x now running at 4.2 all cores

In this Black Friday i got at a good price the 3800X , i would like some advices to overclock it, the CPU will arrive this tuesday, i was reading some posts and seems that to achieve 4.4 the sweet spot is something about 1.3 right? But i wanna more ideas and advices

As we don`t have PBO at 2700 series when i change the cpu it will appear at the bios and i will have to disable right?

Sorry for my english, i`m from Brazil

Thanks for everyone

None!

Just update the latest bios to your motherboard and update chipset drivers and cool it very well! The best that can fit your case and fits your budget. The lower temps, the higher it will boost AUTOMATICALLY!

Manual OC is going to lower your single core boosts and there is no benefit in overclocking these chips.

Below is my 3800X with PBO off and a 360 custom loop.

Thanks for the reply

One question that i always have is, about the chipset drivers, should i use the ones that is at the motherboard page or should i get a newer one somewhere else?

Thanks again

I don't have any AMD, but I've heard a lot of benefits from overclocking ram. Even if your core clock is maxed, you can still do better. Main reason Intel is better in some stuff is ram latency. Minimizing that difference won't hurt all of that compute power you are getting.

Get the chipsets from the mobo webpage.

And like others said no use overclocking, keep the chip cool and it will do it's best to boost.

The faster the RAM, the tighter the timings will also benefit your FPS.

When we say no use overclocking that covers all Zen gens.

This kind of goes for the AMD RX GPUs as well unfortunately. Best thing with the cards is to find best undervolt to keep cards cooler so they can boost higher. AMD CPUs and GPUs kind of work the same now.

yep. undervolt a bit. -0,05 - -0,1V and try to push the ram and infinity fabrik clock to 3800/1900. Than you get a good push in performenc
