1800x to 3900x Worth it?

My current rig:

Ryzen 1800x(with Deepcool400)
Asus Crosshair Hero VI
2x16gb G-skillz Ripjaws V-series (C14D-32GVK)
Seasonic Focus Plus 650w
GTX-1070
Samsung 960 EVO SSD 500gb
Toshiba P300 HDD

My questions are two-fold:
1. Can I swap out the 1800x for the 3900x no problem without changing anything else? Will I notice a difference in Video Editing and Rendering?
2. What is the best way to set up a second drive for After Effects cache and video editing? Another SSD?

Thanks.

Would I need to update my RAM sticks? Will there be a bottle neck there at all?

Should I put AE AND the cache all on the extra SSD?

1: no that ram is 3200mhz and should do fine. You CAN go buy faster sticks if you really want to but id save my money if it were me.

2: SSD all the things. Its 2019, they are dirt cheap.

That looks like some really good RAM, probably B-Die Samsung and you should be able to easily run it at 3600Mhz or even higher with the 3900x. Grab the DRAM Calulater for Ryzen by 1Usmus to find your best overclock for your RAM.

Yeah it's Samsung b-die. I did a lot of research before I got those. Does my MoBo bottleneck anything since it's a x370?

Ram looks great.3600-3800MHz CL14 or 16.
A little more if combo can swing it.Dram calc never worked for me.Go old school on memory.

I would set up ssd that way.

Yes it's worth it for work. However you may consider moving to ThreadRipper?
$580 for a 3900X right now if you find one in stock.
$592 for 12core 2920X with quad channel memory and 64 PCIe lanes
You can grab a top flight mobo, another 16GB B-die RAM and a 12core/24thread 2920X for around $1200

Probably get around $300 for selling current mobo and cpu.

Or just grab a 3700X and enjoy the increased memory performance and higher clocks.

With Samsung B-die you probably good for 3400, 3600 maybe even 3800Mhz memory with 1900mhz Infinity fabric. I am running my Gskill DDR4 3200 FlareX at 3800 or just above with 1900 IF without an issue. These AMD chips are very forgiving going high on memory speed with low timings. As for going from a 1800 to 3900X it will be well worth it and you picked the right time to do so as these new chips clock really well.
