What LLC should I use?

I'm currently trying an all core oc on my 2700x, just to see how good it can be.

For now I'm stable 4.2Ghz 1.3812V, however vcore under full load is 1.362V.

Should I set LLC to max (Lv5) and use a lower voltage?

Right now is at Lv4.

LLC is for minimizing vdroop, not removing it. some vdroop is normal and you shouldn't get rid of all of it. if you have no vdroop your LLC is too aggressive.

on most boards you should ignore the most aggressive LLC option and pretend it doesn't exist.

20mv isn't bad enough to cause you any issues anyway, and if you're unstable at 1.362V and stable at 1.3812 then just set vCore ~20mv higher so after vDroop your CPU is still getting 1.38v.

LLC as a function can create large voltage spikes that happen so fast you will never see it in software or even while watching active graphs of temps.




Always strive to use the lowest LLC that produces a stable overclock. Some motherboards have oddly large gaps between LLC settings, so playing around with them and noting the voltages while the cpu is underclocked 3-400 mhz is worth the investigation.



It is fine to see a bit of an overvoltage at idle or low loads, as these scenarios are not hurtful to cpu lifespan.

Understood, thanks for the quick infos, but what about degradation?

I heard for ryzen 2000 the max "safe voltage" is around 1.375, will it be safe to have an higher voltage while idle?

a CPU at 100% load pulls more amps than idle so yes a CPU at 1.6v with 1% load is going to last longer than a CPU with 1.6v under 100% load.

what voltage is going to start the ball rolling on degradation isn't really something that gets tested en masse (because how would you?) so people draw the line at different voltages without much real reason behind it.

for 14nm I draw the line at 1.45v because I have run that voltage and done benchmarks without issues, but I don't run over 1.4v for 24/7. Smaller manufacturing processes handle less voltage, so I'd say that number for 12nm is probably somewhere between 1.4v and 1.45v and closer to 1.4v.

The Stilt (good thread here for 7nm and another good thread here for 14 and 12nm) says he believes the line for 12nm Ryzen is at "around 1.330V in all-core workloads (i.e. high current) and up to 1.425V in single core workloads."
