Ryzen 5 1600 AF (12nm Pinnacle Ridge)

I got my hands on one of the $85 Ryzen 5 1600s from Amazon. I figured let's start a thread, and discuss things related to Ryzen AF.

Link: https://www.amazon.com/AMD-Processor...pcontext&psc=1

If you've been living under a rock for the past month, these reviews will catch you up on why this is the most exciting budget CPU since probably ZOSMA or Callisto.

https://www.techspot.com/review/1977-amd-ryzen-1600-af/

To my delight, it was delivered a day early, but only about 30 minutes before I had to leave to go to the gym. I still had just enough time to install it into my Gigabyte X370-Gaming K5 with F41 BIOS. I'll experiment later and see which other BIOSes it can POST with, but the F41 had no problems. I replaced my existing Ryzen 5 1600 (14nm) which is getting passed to my kids's gaming rig.

I haven't had a chance to tune it up yet, but running at stock it appears to have a low VID, which is good considering my luck I always get bum potato high VID CPUs. With the low voltage of 0.96 @3200MHz it's obviously also running very cool under my TPC-612. I also noticed some more things are adjustable in Ryzen Master.

Of course I'm going to put this CPU through hell over the next week so stay tuned for some benches and please do add your own.

Is the one you ordered from Amazon indeed a 1600 AF or just a 1600? Either way 85$ for a 1600 is still a good deal.

Feel free to correct me. I'm right just as often as I am wrong. Or wrong as equally as I am right at least. I dunno I could be wrong about that..

It's a great CPU. I have built 2 systems with it already and both clock to 4.2 no problem.

But there is already a thread.m about it.

A fair number of the ones being shipped are the 1600 AF

Pinnacle Ridge = 1600 AF
Summit Ridge = 1600 (non-AF)

Validated 4.5GHz. Might be more left in the tank on that since I didn't have to push voltage too high.

It seems pretty good so far. There are definitely strong and weak cores. It clocks way better than my 14nm version. I'm not having a lot of success with the memory controller, but it could be the BIOS. It won't let me run my F10 BIOS with this CPU, but on that BIOS I was able to run 3466CL14 with my 14nm.

Here is a Cinebench R15 run at 4.3GHz:

I believe these even clock better than 2600. I purchased a 2600 two weeks ago for 100 (the AF were sold out) and it maxed out at 4.1. All 1600AF I have purchased do 4.2 easily. The process has matured and are clocking like threadripper. My old old 2920X benched at 4.4 easy and kept it at 4.3 daily.

I just recently completed a "budget" (at least to me ) build

amd 1600 AF
scythe ninja5
msi b450 tomahawk max
G.Skill Aegis 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3000 Memory
msi rx 5700 evoke oc
WD blue sn 550 1TB NVMe
Crucial bx500 1TB 2.5"
cooler master mwe Gold 550W
cooler master masterbox nr600

I managed to overclock the cpu to 4.25 ghz. Seems stable. I didn't run prime95 all night but it did run fine for several hours. My cpu temp maxed out around 73^C, but it's winter and my house is cool so I'm not willing to push it more than that. I plan on flashing the bios on my graphics card next.

I must have gotten a dud. I have a 14nm 1600 and I can only hit 4.025ghz no matter how much volts I throw at it.

Feel free to correct me. I'm right just as often as I am wrong. Or wrong as equally as I am right at least. I dunno I could be wrong about that..
