Struggling w/2700X OC while memory OC'd

TLDR at the bottom.

While bored during quarantine, I've decided to pick up trying to OC my 2700X. Overclocking the RAM, which I did early last year, was a snap thanks to DRAM Calculator. With that I was able to OC my Samsung B-Die to 3533 CL14 (all timings in attached RTC capture) with all the suggested timings and settings for the 3533 fast preset, except that GDM is on vs the suggested off. I started with the RAM OC since I figured that would be the most time consuming (and it was).

After that I tried to OC my 2700X, with the RAM OC still applied. But I've never been able to get a reasonable manual OC. Even 4.1Ghz @ 1.45v is unstable, and very hot. I gave up and just set "performance enhancement" to level 2, turned on PBO, and called it a day.

Now, since I am home all the time and bored, I've decided to try my hand at a manual OC again. While benchmarking my current setup (to make sure I end up ahead when I'm done) I noticed that HWiNFO64 reports a core power usage of ~185w while running CPU intensive benchmarks. PE2+PBO can't cause that much more power usage, right? Reboot, turn off PBO, set CPU back to default. Core power usage was now around 165w. Still way above the 105w TDP.

...Is it my memory OC? Set memory speed and timings to auto. I run the CPU benchmark again and, sure enough, the CPU is now consuming ~105w.

...I wonder if I can get to 4.2Ghz now.........I can. The CPU power consumption with just the all core OC is around 125w (a ~20w increase).

I run a CPU benchmark again (Blender BMW) and I get 3m42s....which is the exact same time as with my 3533 CL14 memory OC with PE2+PBO. But other tasks that are more demanding on memory are significantly faster with the fast memory OC.

But when I apply my known stable memory OC (5000% via Ram Test) to my stable 4.2Ghz CPU OC it immediately crashes when I apply a heavy load.

Has anyone else had luck getting a fast memory OC to work with a good/decent all core overclock? I game and stream and could benefit from the higher all core clocks (~3800-3850Mhz while gaming+streaming currently).

TLDR: Fast memory OC makes all core overclocks unstable and massively increases power usage.

I suggest you start low like 3.9GHz, 4.0GHz . . . apply some LLC. At 4.2GHz may have to max your LLC.

Got a 2700 non X at 3.9GHz. As usual this cpu will use more vcore than the 2700X. I use about 1.33v and i chose to keep it here cos my cooler is not that beefy (Hyper T4) and the system uses like 112W when all cores at load 100%. Tried the bmw bench and got 3:23 with my RAM set at 3466 CL14.

Up the oc to 4GHz earned a whopping 4secs using 2.81a version.

Your SOC voltage might need a bump.

By Built-in Benchmark Queen:
My 2.5 years old delidded 7980xe @ 4600mhz all core with 49ns memorylatency (4000c16 twekaed) is faster than 3950x max overclocked on water in every scenario. Pretty good for a ancient cpu
In gaming it has no chance vs my new 10900k @ 5400mhz and 4600c16 tweaked memory. ~35ns memorylatency.
