Despite the R5 1600AF having additional cores, 3300X actually outpaced the 1600AF by a small margin in some cases. Here are some benchmarks between the 3100, 3300x and 1600AF:

I didn't actually look for this video on YouTube. I had a separate window already open and that video happen to be on my YouTube feed when I was answering your question, lol.

Depends on the game engine. My 1600 AF performs amazing at 4.2GHz gaming, but I'm at 4k and GPU limited. The 3300X will probably do a bit better in older, less threaded game engines. The current price of the 3300X makes it a poor buy. Might as well get the 3600 for not much more. $105 isn't bad for the 1600AF but I'd like to see it back at $85, which was awesome. I bought 3 of them at that price. I also snagged a 3600 last week for $165 at Walmart of all places.

Just did a quick google search. The 1600af is heavily inflated in price right now, MSRP is 85 dollars.

This is a very strange comparison.

3300x is better in gaming and kinda better in some non-gaming situations but you need to check your work flow.

+if you are getting a decent mobo the future is open both ways, just make sure to get a good set of ram.

At their current prices, the R5 1600AF isn't worth considering. If your primary use is gaming, the R3 3300X is one of the best bangs for the buck out there. The R5 3600 is better, but not ~33% better. If you can't afford the ~$45 jump to the R5 3600, either settle for the R3 3300X or save for a bit. Alternatively, you can get an R3 3300X now and look to upgrade when Zen 3 comes out.
