OC athlon II X4 640

Hello with everyone, i want to know if is possible OC athlon II X4 640, my motherboard is a GA-770T-USB3 the refrigeration sistem is a simple fan. I am new with oC and i dont want damange my processor

Okay I don't have or have never had your CPU,But to answer your question,Yes you can overclock your CPU.
First things first,You must have a good CPU Cooler.
And you are going to have to do a lot of reading.
Software you are going to need; CPUID,HWMonitor,& Either OCCT or Prime95(These 2 are for stability testing).

yes but according to other people there are certain motherboards that are not recommended for overclocking

Your motherboard should be fine for overclocking,If your CPU is not unlocked then you will have to overclock from the FSB,Which means you will have to lower your memory speed.

It's multiplier is unlocked. all you have to do is raise multiplier and voltage accordingly.

Athlon ll multipliers are not unlocked as AMOCO has stated. Here is an internal link to a beginners guide.

I had 630 on a Gigabyte ga-870a-ud3 and was doing over 3.1GHz just fine.

The 640 can reach 3.4/3.5 on the stock cooler or 3.9-4ghz on a good aftermarket.
