USB4 and DDR5, Zen3...

Guys,
but is it real world that AMD will continue to use DDR4 and USB3 on even Zen3?

Come one. My OLD DDR4 PC is getting seriously old now, should I buy another PC with the same memory and the same USB standard?

USB is backwards compatible. USB-A port isn't going away anytime soon either.
Considering that Zen 3 is compatible with 400 series chipset and later (which all use DDR4), yes AMD will continue to use DDR4 for at least that particular generation.

Intel will be first to use DDR5 on 10 nm platform come 2021. Not too long now.

AMD's Gen 4 is not due not till 2022, which will use DDR5.

By Built-in Benchmark Queen:
My 2.5 years old delidded 7980xe @ 4600mhz all core with 49ns memorylatency (4000c16 twekaed) is faster than 3950x max overclocked on water in every scenario. Pretty good for a ancient cpu
In gaming it has no chance vs my new 10900k @ 5400mhz and 4600c16 tweaked memory. ~35ns memorylatency.

Might wait awhile for desktop, tho, cos it is slated for servers.

At the earliest, DDR5 may make an appearance on Zen 4 EPYC chips. Enthusiast and mobile chips probably won't see DDR5 until Zen 5.

We might still be on "USB3" but don't forget that there is Gen 3.1, 3.2 etc, with different bandwidths.

Just remember that higher numbers are not always better.

Further, early DDR5 will likely be slower (or just match) DDR4 in terms of bandwidth, just like early DDR4 did with DDR3, 3 did with 2, 2 did with 1...

AMD are first to PCI-E 4.0, while Intel are still tinkering around with PCI-E 3.0... why not go X570 and bin that old PCI-E 3.0 trash! (This last sentence is sarcasm, by the way...)

I think DDR5 production got pushed back. So we might not see ddr5 in desktops until the end of 2021. But IBM Power 10 chips should have DDR5 in first half of 2021. We already have DDR5 in phones.

I think we will see chips that do both DDR4 and DDR5. Like we seen with earlier DDR transitions.
