Judging by first tests, 3800XT is complete washout, no better than 3800x or even 3700x but at price of 3900x which wipes the floor with it.
Funny thing is that 3600XT has gained most and can possibly became next best buy for gaming. As AMD is not stopping production of non-XT they may see another reduction in prices. My target for next CPU next year is still 3900x.

Asus Prime x470 Pro BIOS 5601 1006
R7 3700x. Arctic Liquid Freezer II 240
2 x Kingston HyperX KHX3600C17D4/8GX
Samsung 960 Evo 250GB
Asus strix 570 OC 4gb

The R5 3600XT doesn't gain anything. The clock speed advantage it has over the other R5 processors doesn't amount to any meaningful difference in performance. Gamers Nexus is going to release a video with a Zen 2 XT setup fully optimized since it's apparently easier to get 1900 MHz Infinity Fabric, which appears to be the only benefit of the XT processors. There's no reason to pay $80, almost 50% more than an R5 3600, for less than a 5% increase in performance. If AMD wants these parts to actually move, they need to be priced more competitively. They're all either priced too close to a better processor or priced way too far from a processor that's barely worse.

Amd is simply trying to saturate market but with present performance they don't have to worry much about pricing. It's not FX time any more.

Flooding the market with a bunch of identically performing CPUs at different prices does nothing but confuse the consumer. Seeing XT would lead one to believe the processor is better than the X variant. And I guess in a vacuum, they are better, but not ~$80 better. Price should indicate performance and the XT processors don't come close to that. AMD should have discontinued the processors the XT variants were replacing and priced them more competitively. Even just dropping the price 10% across the board would make them more compelling options. As it stands, there's literally no reason to buy any of them.

It's more of a business decision, they know that most people will fall to "new and improved" thing just like Intel customers are falling for all these years. Latest production Ryzen chips all across the board have better silicone and advantage over first series.
As for pricing, it's up to individual customers to decide if +100MHz equals +80 bucks like it''s the case with 3700x vs 3800x but in case of 3800x vs 3800xt difference is no more than statistical error.
When you get to 12/16 core CPUs individual core performance is even less important.

Of course Zen 2 has an advantage over Zen 1. The problem is this Zen 2 refresh doesn't offer any performance advantages over the Zen 2 lineup from a year ago. There's literally no reason for the parts to exist.

Renoir coming soon.

By Built-in Benchmark Queen:
My 2.5 years old delidded 7980xe @ 4600mhz all core with 49ns memorylatency (4000c16 twekaed) is faster than 3950x max overclocked on water in every scenario. Pretty good for a ancient cpu
In gaming it has no chance vs my new 10900k @ 5400mhz and 4600c16 tweaked memory. ~35ns memorylatency.
