For me it was cheaper getting two instead of one. It seems silly to assume prices are the same for everyone or that prices double when the size does.

Samsung Pro SSDs are nearly double the price of their Evo counterparts. In any market, it would make more sense to buy one 970 Evo Plus instead of two 970 Pros. This isn't even considering other, better values among NVMe SSDs that would take advantage of PCI-e 4.0. A 2TB MP600 would have made a lot more sense than any Samsung SSD.

I guess if I was doing something that scaled with more cores, it would easily be worth the trip. Alternatively, you can make the trip and sell either processor toward an upgrade for something else. Seems a bit silly to get an RTX 2070 instead of an RTX 2070 Super. Also seems silly to get two 1TB 970 Pro drives instead of a 2TB 970 Evo Plus. I see your logic, although I will be seeing a relative I haven't seen in a while and I've already pumped myself up for the road trip. There is the added bonus of getting into the PC and adding something new and also benchmarking and testing something new.

My GPU is a super btw, apologies, I forgot to add that.

I bought the M.2s on separate occasions, I liked how one performed, needed more space later so I bought another.

If you get to do more than just pick up the CPU, then it's definitely worth the trip. If I got to see a friend or relative in addition to picking up the CPU, that would make it more likely for me to make the trip.

Did you already have the X570 motherboard when you bought the NVMe SSDs? Because if so, those SSDs were not the best buys for you. You have PCI-e 4.0 so you could have gotten even faster drives, like this one, for less money. Samsung has PCI-e 4.0 SSDs coming soon.

Based off info in the 1st post...heck no.

Based off info later in the thread...maybe.

If you want to see the relative go for that reason...the CPU trade is a bonus.

You nailed it! The X570 was the most recent upgrade, I had the B450 Tomahawk. I was thinking of getting a Gen 4 SSD but after asking around I was told that what I already have is fine since Gen 4s worth is mainly if you're transferring huge amounts of data right now.

If you bought the second NVMe SSD after going X570, grabbing a PCI-e 4.0 SSD would have been worth it. Even if you aren't performing drive-intensive tasks that fully takes advantage of the speed, you would have gotten a faster drive for less money. If going for a PCI-e 4.0 SSD wasn't "worth it" then neither was getting a 970 Pro.

Seems I have a choice of 3900X or 3800XT, I think I am going with 3900X.

Is it a trade or just a free cpu? If it's just a free cpu then why do you have to physically pick it up? Are you 100% sure this is legit or are you going to get there and get robbed or stood up? If you're confident the interaction will be legit then might as well take the trip though if this is just a random internet person then think I'd pass.
