I'm not doing it wrong. Stock operation means temps in the 50s even under a nice cooler.

So you think it is normal for a good cooler to keep a 70w load only 15c over ambient temps at idle? ok....

You shouldn't be seeing 50c idle, something has to be wrong. Maybe your cooler isn't latched all the way, bad paste application, bad motherboard auto voltages, bad case airflow, high ambient temps.

My 3700x with the stock wraith prism cooler has always idled in the 30-36c range depending on ambient using the ryzen balanced power plan. Right now the ambient is 25c and it's showing 30.6c at idle and that's with SOC/uncoreOC mode enabled so less power savings.

Yeah, my fans are set to low RPM because i don't like my PC to be noisy. Still, there is decent airflow and my cooler is very well mounted.

Not as HOT as the Shintel 10th gen series.

Those are indeed room heaters and barbecue pits, for anyone using them inside their PC cases .

You never mention what cooler you are using so 50C at idle could be ok with an 'ok' cooler. My 3900X using the EDC bug and tweaked idles around 34-42C with a 280mm AIO at a room temp of around 20-22C. For the fan speed ramping up and down, that is normal for a 3000 series as they do not sit at a set clock speed and ramp up and down waiting to be used. So to lessen that issue you need to set a flatter fan curve, find a percentage that keeps it cool enough for you and set that flat until something like 65C in your case. Then ramp up toward 100% to say 75 or 80C. I have mine set to be flat until 55C since my CPU stays under 55C unless pushed hard, due to the cooler used. It then ramps up to 100% by 70C, my setup does not go over 70C unless I am running something pushing the chip to 100% all core for a sustained period of time.
