One little con about this board - after 2933 is irresistible wall for memory overclock (Sams B-Die 3600/cl16).

Really? Bummer. I got my Samsung E-die to 3030mhz stable. It will run at its rated 3200 cl16 but is not stable, but I never really expected 4 sticks of E-die to do it. Have to visited the memory stability thread?

It is solid. It is advertised as a gaming board and that is its focus. The case fans are tied to the system temps instead of the cpu temps. That means that when stress testing the cpu the case fans are idling while the cooler fans are howling and the cpu runs a few degrees warmer. The vrm heat sink is a solid block of aluminum. If I was serious about overclocking I would cut a bunch of slots in it to create actual fins for extra cooling.

But when gaming the case fans are pumping lots of cool air at the gpu which runs very cool as a result. My air cooled Fury ran in the 55-60C range @1080mhz and my air cooled Vega 64 runs in the 50-56C range @ 1680mhz.

The bios can be buggy. It seems that every other one is good. I tried the latest one and reverted back to the earlier one with the flick of a switch. Dual bios for the win! One bios chip can be used to flash the other one so I have not been able to truly brick a bios despite many noob mistakes.

Thanks for the info, miklkit. I've had Biostar boards in the past and they were solid. I'll keep the fan configuration in mind. Still counting on the X470, though. Nice build by the way.

Thanks. All I do is surfing and gaming anymore so it is sufficient. The max power draw from the wall now is 510 watts according to the led on the ups so the psu is in its sweet spot.

On newegg and other sites, the main complaint seems to be not being able to get specified speeds with the memory. In particular, Hynix RAM - I was looking at the X470 version. Comments?

I was comparing to the Gigabyte X470 Aorus Gaming 7 Wifi board - there is a thread for this board on here, too.

It has the old school bios where you manually input the settings. If you are looking for a one button auto overclock, look somewhere else.

Forget about those "expert" settings. I tried the ram calculator and it bricked the bios. Twice. Then I reverted to the manual settings and it runs fine.

Here is how mine ran the last time I bothered to check it.

I may be wrong, but the Crosshair VI Extreme seems to be the best VRM on the market for AM4, isn't it?
