USB Ports / Possible Keyboard Issue

Evening OCN,

Trying to help my brother get his PC up and running after years of it not being used.

The main problem I could use some advice on is with his USB ports / keyboard being functional.

So when the computer boots up and is on the bios screen, it seems to work just fine with any keyboard / mouse, my G710+ and Deathadder worked fine and so did the standard Dell crap I tried afterward.

Once it makes it to the Windows 7 login screen and wants my bro's password, the G710+ and Deathadder stop working (I'm guessing it wants drivers installed for them, no point doing that though as my brother won't be using my keyboard / mouse). So I unplug those pop some standard Dell kboard / mouse, it works long enough for me to login and then the keyboard won't type any more. The scroll / caps / num lock lights all work and turn on and off when those keys are pressed, and the mouse seems to work just fine. So when I click into like a password field to change my bro's password, I can hit caps lock and windows 7 still comes up with that "Caps lock is on" warning. But I still can't type.

All of this is true when the keyboard / mouse are plugged in the front USB ports. Nothing seems to work in the back USB ports once I'm in windows 7. All keyboards / mice tested worked in the back ports in the Bios.

Trying to figure out if this is just a driver issue and I just need to get the computer connected to the internet and let it update its drivers for the accessories, or if my brother may need a new mobo.

Mobo is an old AM3+ Gigabyte mobo with UEFI bios.

Let me know what questions you need answered to help me out.

Cheers mates!

Edit;

Unrelated side note, anyone know how to change my title under my name? It's been nearly 10 years since I joined OCN, don't exactly think I count as "new to OCN" anymore. Lol

Look in the manual or online for all the USB controllers on the board... probably just the AMD south bridge and maybe an ASmedia controller.

Download the right drivers for those chips and save them on the Windows install usb or another usb if installing from a disk. Reinstall windows, but go to thru the advanced installation options and load the drivers for the south bridge and the 3rd party usb controller - this like when installing Windows on a RAID array.

CPU
AMD Ryzen 2700X
Motherboard
Asus Prime X470-Pro
GPU
EVGA GeForce RTX 2070 XC Ultra
RAM

Hard Drive
Samsung 840 EVO 250 GB

Corsair H80i (not V2 or GT)
