Is Ryzen 3600 supported on a mini-itx yet?

Hello,

I am buying mini-ITX AM4 board and I could go for a 2600X but I'd rather go the 3600 route to get a Ryzen gen 3.

My concern is that of the two motherboards I am looking at, both do not support Gen 3 except with an updated/beta bios that I have no idea if it will be loaded. If it is not loaded then I would need to acquire another AM4 CPU just to do the bios upgrade.

Does anybody have a suggestion how to go about this? Is there a way to buy a motherboard with an upgraded BIOS or is there a way to upgrade it without a CPU? I see that MSI allows some boards to upgrade BIOS without any CPU but that doesn't seem to apply to the one I am looking at. Below are my preferred motherboards which have a B450 Chpiset:

Edit: Picked the Motherboard and now waiting on AMD:

I've reached out to AMD for a loaner kit but their service is awful, they send an email saying the created a customer care account but then never followup with anything else.
Edit2: System came online after using loaner CPU to update bios:

So far everything has been working decently on the board with bios 2501 and Ryzen 3600 installed! Consider this a sucess, hopefully future users will soon be getting boards with a bios that support Zen 2.

Worst case, AMD has a loaner program so you can update bios's if you don't mind waiting & building, removing loaner CPU and installing new CPU.

Otherwise, I'd go for the MSI board (it has a better VRM). I also like the MSI has the antenna spaced out a bit more (you can add more robust antenna later if you need to).

There are plenty of x470 mITX boards that will accept a 3600. ASUS will likely have the most polished BIOSes of the bunch and their RoG boards GENERALLY have pretty stout VRMs. I don't have their mITX offerings but I do have CVIIHero which they put overkill VRMs, Chokes and Mosfets on.

But you can search YouTube for reviews of any board you may be interested in. OC3D, Buildzoid and a plethora of other tech reviewers are the ones I would be looking at in that event.

I think the reason r9 39**x was the reason ASUS went overkill with their VRMs for the x470 performance boards. At least that's my thoughts on the issue. My WiFi board will more than handle the heat thrown off by any R9 CPU that will seat it.

Got it Jedi, that does sound like a bit of work but the program should be do-able as I already have a machine.

Others, I was looking at the B450 mobo's since they were <$150. Do you think it is worth going for an X470 or X570 for a mini-ITX? I just didn't expect to need their features.

You can get an RoG Strix B450 @ Newegg for about $155 including shipping.

But for $50 more you can get the better x470 Chipset @ Newegg as well. Though they came back sold out in my comparison of the two boards. Honestly I wouldn't go any lower than x470 but it's doable with B450 boards.

The reason I say this is that all but one board of the x570 line run a heatsink fan on the SB. That lone board is the MSi Godlike X570 and it retails for $700 and doesn't fit your mITX need as it's EATX I believe. I could be wrong about that EATX Form Factor though.

I see,

I'm willing to pay a bit more and am likely to pick the ASUS x470 at Amazon for $190:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...KIKX0DER&psc=1

I would be open to the Gigabyte X570 I AORUS but it's currently not in stock at Newegg/Amazon. Maybe it'll come back around when I decide to pull the trigger, but not sure that it's worth the extra $30-$40. The Aorus does not advertise a WIFI Antenna also, while the ASUS seems to have a nice antenna.

MSI should be releasing "MAX" versions of their B450/X470 boards soon, which already have the bios with ryzen 3000 support.

The MSI B450I actually has one of the best "normal size" VRM's of the 400 series boards, its a pretty killer deal.

There is very little difference between the Strix B450i and the Strix X470i. On paper they seem to be exactly the same. Even the VRM is the same. I would save the $40 and get the Strix B450i.

Its pretty much just the chipset, but I have heard that in some cases the 2000X series did show better boost behavior on the X470 versions.

No idea if this this is the case for the 3000 series as well, and for the non X counterparts, it probably doesn't matter anyway, as you'll want to OC those manually(Edit: Or not, seems like the all core boost on the 3000 non-X chips is pretty good as well).
