ASUS TUF B450M Plus Gaming - 3200G Issues

Hey OCN,

I built a living room rig for my parents but have had a pretty rough go. I'd like to get your opinions on whether my issues are a defective board, or a 3000 series compatibility issue.

CPU/GPU: Ryzen 3200G
MOBO:ASUS TUF B450M Gaming Plus (mATX)
RAM: 2x8gb Corsair Vengeance LPX 3200MHz
SSD: 500GB M.2 WD SN750 Black NVME SSD
PSU: Corsair CX550M
Cooler: Hyper 212 Evo

The board is on the latest available (1.0.0.3AB AGESA) bios (July 29th, 2019).

Everything seems fine until I stress test (Prime95 or OCCT). Even at stock the stress test will continue but then the following 3 things may/will happen:

1: I lose USB 2.0 Headers (Keyboard and mouse/ storage drives will stop working if plugged into these ports) but will work if switch them over to a USB 3.0 port*
2: I lose USB 3.0 Headers* (This only happens on the front panel, USB 3 off the motherboard has been solid so far)
3: I lose the Ethernet Jack (Says there is no cable connected after about 30 seconds of stress testing)

When any of these happens, I can stop the stress test but when I try to reboot, It will be stuck "Shutting Down" Forever and I have to do a hard reset. Everything works again upon reboot.

Fixes Tried:
The memory passes memtest x86 from the bios at both the 2133 default and 3200 rated speeds.
SSD performs as advertised in benchmarks
I reinstalled windows because before I realized the cursor disappearing was USB related, I did a lot of hard resets...
I tried manual voltage/frequency/memory settings at several speeds (below and above stock).
Upgraded the cooler, Max load temps are 58C now (not really related)

What do you guys think?

I can't send them an unstable system as I live 4500km away and seem them once a year.

Thanks,
-s753

I'm personally not a fan of synthetic testing.... That being said I do use it regularly for testing. Has there been issues with daily use with the PC?

Back in the day I had an FX-8320 that I could not get prime stable @ 4.7 for the life of me. I used the PC for gaming mostly, even though it wasn't prime stable I had no noticeable issues with the gaming performance.

Aside from my opinion on stress testing... Was the board used before this setup with another CPU? If it was and was working I would guess its a BIOS issue. AMD's awesome software support!

1: I can't send a computer that's not 100% stable. My parents aren't the type to troubleshoot
2: I wish I could try another CPU, however. the 3200G is closer to a new stepping than a new chip (from the 2200g). So i'm not sure why the 3000 series UEFI issues would apply to it beyond motherboard recognition.

I just stumbled through getting my parents to give me their MS account details so I can transfer the windows license to their account and get a new board. I think i'm limited to the same model as per MS OEM license rules so i'll report back to see if this solves the issues.

Yeah.....i still play WC3 TFT, so what....

Well,

I exchanged the motherboard for a new one and every issue appears to have been solved, Looks like it was just a defective unit.

Thanks for reading.
EDIT: Prime95 is stable at stock (30mins), OCCT causes the same I/O issues at stock within 5 seconds of starting the cpu test.....

I'm really at a loss as to why, I've never had this many issues at stock. I may try a 2400g but at this point I'm pretty close to looking at other solutions. I wish I hadn't gone mATX. the board selection is limiting.

Yeah.....i still play WC3 TFT, so what....

I exchanged the 3200G for a 2400G and everything is perfect now.

Ryzen 3000 has a ways to go on pre-X570 boards.

Yeah.....i still play WC3 TFT, so what....

Sounds like the bios needs some work on that motherboard. Glad you got it sorted.

So glad I found your post, I'm having the exact same issue with same MB, CPU, and DDR setup and it was driving me insane!! Returning the 3400g CPU and placed an order for the 2400g. Thank you Thank You!!

AAARGGH!!! Well the 2400g did work for a good several hours, then while browsing the web BLOOP. - disconnected USB and Ethernet - Damn.

Lucky for me I'm still within return period for the motherboard. I'm done with ASUS. Trying a Gigabyte next.
