Why not the Gigabyte Aorus Elite x570?
It's one of the best at the 200-250$ range.

No wifi, 2nd m.2 heatsink, lacks sli support, slightly weaker vrm?

----------------------------------

How bad of a downgrade is the MSI Pro Carbon WiFi VRM compared to the Gigabyte Aorus Pro WiFi? And how many layers is the msi pcb?

It's 4 layer in MSI's lineup unless you buy MSI Ace or upwards.

The MSI Pro Carbon is using 10x Dual-N fets (powerblocks) instead of twelve powerstages but the problem is that the VRM cooling is utter garbage. You have a heatsink completely covered in plastic with minimal fin area. As you saw with Ultra vs Pro, even though the Ultra had far more fin area it was running a degree or two warmer on the front of the PCB due to the plastic cover. It would be much worse with the Pro Carbon which doesn't have a heatpipe connecting the two VRM heatsinks.

There is a X570 AORUS ELITE WIFI (I believe they are not releasing to European market but Asian-Pacific market should have access). But the features you listed in what your are looking for are valid.

I feel your dilemma. Tough to decide. I don't think you can go wrong with any x570 board.

If I had not helped you out couple months ago I would have loved to cover the difference so you could get an x570 master.

Indeed it's quite hard to decide, especially when MSI is running this promotion that would yield you a 240mm AIO if you buy their mid-high to high end boards.

Try as I might, I just can't get to love the MSI X570 Pro Carbon Wifi...
  • It can't do SLI.
  • Top M.2 Slot is PCIE mode only.
  • 1 RGB and 2 ARGB ports.
  • Horrible VRM heatsinks with no heatpipe.
  • A VRM I don't quite understand... aka what are the MOSFETs exactly?
  • Two SATA Ports are upward facing, not 90 degrees on the edge.

The MSI does look better than the Gigabyte X570 Pro Wifi though.

While we have Gigabyte over here... that's only giving you a UMBRELLA for buying their boards... like what? I kidd you not.

Spoiler!

What good is a umbrella supposed to be...? Am I going to be using my system in a open field in the middle of nowhere to warrant a Umbrella?

Specs on paper and looks the Gigabyte X570 Ultra wins overall for me but looses out on the promo and the fact the Ultra is way more expensive than the MSI Pro Carbon WiFi and Gigabyte Pro Wifi. I'm having a hard time justifying the price of the Ultra too.

Thanks for that by the way But even if you did, I can't justify the price of the Master as it's basically a Ultra with a upgraded VRM, and 2.5G Lan which I don't really think would be useful for me, but that ESS DAC and manual BIOS select function would be nice though. The Ultra itself is identical to the X570 Pro Wifi except for the 3rd M.2 Slot and better looking but slightly worse performing VRM heatsink as per AlphaC.

Another major problem is I apparently can't get the X570 Aorus Pro Wifi anywhere locally... The retailers keep mislabelling the ITX version ( X570I Aorus Pro WiFi ) to the ATX version omitting the "I" and every time I ask if they have the ATX version they keep telling me the distributor / supplier doesn't have it. Even the promotion page for the Gigabyte umbrella dosen't have the ATX Pro Wifi on the eligible motherboard list. EDIT: The X570 Ultra is available in store in most of them but I'm not sure if I want to spend the extra money on it.

The AsRock Taichi is a even more attrative option than the Gigabyte X570 Ultra, but literally nobody is selling AsRock X570 board here... Maybe they left the country?

I'm currently looking at the Gigabyte X570 Aorus Pro Wifi but I'm not sure if there's anything else better than that board. I'm fine with any brand.

aorus pro wifi isn't bad, but eek out $50 more and get an x570 taichi. You will have 3 m.2s. or look for an open-box one for ~$250 if you have a microcenter handy.

I don't know what they're giving people umbrellas for. Maybe they made too many umbrellas in marketing...

Anyhow if you can manage to get MSI ace with the 240mm AIO promotion it's decent. Given your options if you can manage to make it into effectively the price of below the Taichi / Aorus Ultra I'd buy that. The only downside is a 2 less SATA ports which I don't feel is a large issue for most people especially given the 3rd M.2 slot.

MSI Pro Carbon using 10x 56A rated (per MSI) Ubiq QA3111 powerblocks with terrible heatsink, so it's basically almost equal to 12 phases of discrete mosfets in the grand scheme of things. In a best case scenario you generate less heat , have quicker switching, but then have no schotty diode (in powerstages for light load efficiency) or integrated drivers (powerstages have integrated mosfet drivers).

If you look at prior MSI usage of QM3816N it's likely only less heat at low side fet: http://www.ubiq-semi.com/files/1875/...1-d30ecacb9aa1

The Ace is definitely going to be more expensive than the Ultra but with the value of the aio it could come to the same if not lower. My only concern now if I went with MSI for the AIO is the coolers themselves only come with 2 years warranty and I've seen posts ( as per usual ) of leaks coming from the ML240L and ML240R. There have been some users that have had components replaced due to water damage from the cooler and some not

I found this tier list and would like to know if you think it's pretty accurate? If it is then decision making would be a tad easier.
