X470 or B450?

I need a good overclocking board and I don't know enough about the differences between the 2 to know which one to pick. I'm getting a 3600 and I hope to reach 4 GHz but I'll settle for 3600X stock speed. I also want to OC my 3000 ram to 3200 and I hope to keep my CAS 15 setting.

Any advice?

Just as a note if you are not already aware but none of the B450 and X470 boards will work with a 3600x without a BIOS update first

You shouldn't be soo moddest about your OC
UP to cooler you should be able to drive 4.2 on that 3600, and likely 3400+ MT/s memory OC
About the "difference" - it's mostly a PCB layer and VRM difference, also depends on your region where you buy stuff ~ what would make "more" sense

I would go the X370 way, but everything you pick
(except the new MSI MAX boards or the ASRock Steel Legend Series)

Would require a bios update~
You either get a bootkit, buy used or grab a board with flashback support
Maybe just beg the e-tailer to update your bios , many do it / tho many scam you with wanting 20$+ for 2min work

Depends on the board... There are B450 boards that are better than certain X470 boards. But the best X470 boards are definitely better than the best B450 boards.

Ask the mnfer. I use a 450 with cl16 3200 ram np, it's the cheapest cl 16 3200 ram I could find. I just had to put in 1 ram stick at a time in slot a2 so the bios could load the XMP. Ryzen 2600, you for a 3600 you can buy one with an updated bios on EBAY, buy one with a flasher that does not require a cpu or wait for AMDs free bios update kit to come in the mail.

A $20 fee to update the bios is hardly scamming you. Provided they have to open the box, get the board out on a test bench, hook it up , install cpu ram video card and heatsink, flash bios, disassemble and pack it all up. Remember, they are paying labor and other costs associated with the person doing that work.

On top of the risk that the flash (however unlikely) could brick the board.
