Isue with new X570 Aorus elite and old sata SSD

Hi guys,
i have a quite annoying problem. I just bought Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite MB, Ryzen 5 3600 and Samsung 970 Evo plus 500gb NVMe ssd. I installed windows on samsung ssd and everything works fine, but the moment i connect my previous SSD ( SanDisk x400 512gb ) pc becomes sluggish. It takes minute or two before i can open total commander or file explorer. It takes 3-4 minutes to open Aida64 even tho its installed on new samsung ssd. I used this SanDisk ssd as my system drive for past 3-4 years and never had any issues. Formatting the drive did not help. Switching between MBR and GPT same result. I dont know what to try anymore, google is of no help unfortunately. Never had system boot up so slow even with HDD.

Tnx in advance.

Rest of my system is
R9 290 ( waiting on RX 5700xt)
2x8gb G.Skill Trident Z royal 3000mhz
630w PSU

Hi,

I've got the same motherboard, Bios F5B.

Did you try your Sandisk on other SATA ports ?
Did you check your connection (SATA cable) on both ends, with a special attention to the motherboard ?

I am currently running an Nvme SSD (PNY C3030), 2 SSD (Crucial BX500, PNY CS900) and 2 HD, I don't have any trouble.

I have tried every single SATA port, tried with 4 cables. MB came with F3 version of the bios, updated it to latest one from 3 days ago F10a, same issue. After couple of minutes on desktop everything works fine, it just is sluggish after boot even tho sata SSD is empty.

Did you check any new firmware for your Sandisk SSD ?

https://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/d...400%20firmware

I've seen that site too, but I do not know if it is reliable or not:

I have updated the firmware but it does not help. It takes over 7 minutes before ssd is usable and is shown in task manager under performance tab.

Did you assign a letter for your Sandisk drive after having formatted it ?

Once your computer is "OK" (so you can work with it), could you have a look in Windows 10 Disk Management and see how the SSD partition appears ?

I just signed up to tell you i had the same problem, my SSD was showing a "Interface CRC Error Count" in HDTunePro
Health tab and my NVMe speeds were slow. i checked my benchmarks on Userbenchmark before and after unplugging the SSD. The issue went away. it seems it was dying probably, it was like 5 years old.

Yep letter assigned, disk is shown normally as healthy primary partition. Formatted to NTFS

The thing is, after couple of minutes after boot, works perfectly fine. SanDisk software shows it at 95% health ( its ~4years old ).

"What am i to look for at event viewer ?"

I think is that if you can see something showing that the computer is frozen for several minutes (i.e. no activity during that period).

The other thing is maybe to check if something is launched juste before the freeze.

I don't know how to help you...
