That souded like there are other more serious issues...

Also another question: Currently I'm using G.skill TridentZ RGB 3200 C14 RAM 4x 8GB on my Threadripper 1950x. I'll be building a new monstrosity soon with the TR 3960x and was wandering should I keep my RAM (as it is Samsung B-die) or maybe sell it for a good price and get the newer (and cheaper) Ballistix Sport LT moduled that are using Micron E-die and clock quite good on Ryzen aparently... My goal is to get to DDR4 3600 or 3800 with a sync 1800/1900 on the Infinity fabric. I'm looking for the lowest latency possible (on the TR Platform) for gaming/testing/benching scenarios...
Yeah, thats why I said on the platform, not on the motherboard

The CPU temperatures themselves are the biggest issue, air cooling is pretty much out of the question.

I'd hang on those B-die DIMMs.
They should do 3600MHz 16-16-16 or better easily.

OK, Thanks!
I'll be using two 480 60mm Rads to keep the beast cool so it should be enough
Now I just need to settle on the board... Aorus Extreme or the Zenith II Extreme...
On one side the Zenith will be more popular because Asus ROG...
On the other the Aorus Extreme has those 90 degree connectors for almost everything and I really like that the board is so big... I have a big enclosure to fill...

That's more than two inches thick. Guess you don't do anything small.

Interesting thread. I take it the general consensus is that there are some high quality motherboards available with the TRX40 chipset? I seem to recall that there was a mixed bag of offerings with the older Threadripper mobos.

We have some in Bulgaria
Also check PCPartPicker Select the country from the upper right corner of the page and go through the EU countries. A lot of them have stock.

Overclockers UK has both 3960x and 3970x in stock and ship Worldwide.

Amazon EU also has 11 units of 3970x in stock at this very moment (sold and shipped by Amazon). With the 3960x coming in stock on the 11th, this month.

it's funny you say that because i ordered my 3960X from amazon.es, amazon's localized spainish website. final price with import tax and shipping to NYC is 1093.97 euros, or about $1212 USD as of today's trading rates. i ordered it about 8 hours after release and they were still available 3 days later. newegg, amazon, B&H and other large US retailers sold out instantly

as for the board discussion. what do you guys think of MSI's two lower boards? would that be enough for some light overclocking with the 3960X?

1093.97 euros??? That is impossible pricing! AMD sells them for 1399 USD and the cheapest price I've seen in Europe is about 1490 Euro... HOW? WHY?

I also have one on the way from Amazon Spain, they have since corrected the price but they honored sold units. Happens quite frequently on Amazon actually. Some of this is automated by the algorithms they have.

I paid 980,96 EUR (without VAT) for my 3960x. Arriving today.

Was going to order a 3950x, but once I saw this opportunity I thought... **** it! Let's have it!

I also have 128gb of DDR4 Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB arriving this week, 3200 c16 (not the best I know, but should OC somewhat) for.... EUR 500,84!
