CPU socket to DIMMs distance. Main feature(looking for a new mobo)
I'm looking to upgrade my motherboard/cpu/ram to Ryzen later this year. I will be using everything else that is on my rig. I want to give my current mobo/cpu/ram to my brother as I'm starting to run into issues when watching movies thru Plex when I'm away for work. Some movies start buffering a lot due to the transcoding so I figured the CPU is having trouble getting this done. I also want to upgrade just because.
One of the main features I'm interested in is the distance from the cpu socket to the ram dimms. I have a giant air cooler which I plan to use with the Ryzen but I also want RGB ram and it would be too tall for the HSF.
Anyone know which mid range X570 or B450 motherboards have a decent distance between the CPU socket and the memory DIMM slots?
I'm thinking of getting a R5 3600x or a R7 3700x, either MSI MPG X570 Gaming Edge WiFi, ASUS TUF Gaming X570-Plus(wifi), or the Gigabyte x570 Aorus Elite, and hopefully B-die RGB ram 3200/3600 16GB kit. Out of all three I like the MSI one better because of the position of SATA ports. I may or may not overclock the cpu it in the future.
I don't care if the motherboard has wifi or not and if push comes to shove I can ditch the current HSF, use the stock cooler until I can get a 360mm AIO. Here is a pic my current system.
