Need upgrade adviadvice for older PC

I have the current mobo...

https://www.newegg.com/asrock-a785gm...82E16813157274

Was looking for advice to upgrade. Obviously need to get 4gb x2 of pc6400. Mabe get an AM3 CPU and a better GPU than the current HD 7850 2GB 256-Bit. Unless a new build would be not much more expensive (I can salvage most things and have an ATX case in need of use) what suggestions do you have? Thanks.

There are methods to my madness, and considering I have a great deal of madness, I obviously must have a great many methods - Michinmuri

The last time I saw a motherboard with a heat sink like that it got so hot the glue melted and it slid down until it hit the pci slot. It is time to start over from point "A".

this times 2000!
you can get a B450 Tomahawk Max for 115. Cpu for under 200 easily, and ram for 70 for 16gb. so under 400 with brand new setup and get out of the stone age for at least another decade.
But if you are competing in some old socket OC stuff, idk. its going to be hard to find things at decent prices. even on marketplace here.

Maybe look for some old higher boost clock server hardware, say, sandybridge or ivy and newer. If you keep your eyes open you'll probably board/cpu/ram combo that will be light years ahead of that for maybe 100us.

Uhh, you can get decent B450 motherboards for $80 or less, and CPUs around $100 or less. I think you're pricing is a little off. It doesn't take much of a Ryzen build to blow away anything on socket AM3. Hell, a first gen 1500X will easily beat every FX CPU in existence.

Edit out some redundant bits.
