Oh well, in the first gen it was the same - 1700X/1800X had pretty much no point for their MSRP. R5 1600 and R7 1700 were the ones to go for.

The 1700 and 1800 i thought werent half bad for some workloads, but it wasnt as clear cut as it was in the 2000 series imho.

Regardless, all of them are good because competition is just good for us all

Don't install Dragon Center and Ryzen master yet, it borked the LED's / POST code display on my Godlike.

Well, a bit late now, wish i had seen this

I ended up having that issue with the board coupled with a bunch of severe stability problems with it that lead to me returning it, it also enjoyed losing my graphics card... Ended up getting the Aorus Master (Xtreme is backordered) and everythings going quite well

Still getting it all dialed in at the moment

Looks really good op. Especially when all four slots are filled with ram. Keep us updated.

Thank you and yeah, i specifically did 4 sticks for the look despite the potential issue of ram speed... Luckily its running full speed 3600 CL16 with zero issues

So far ive just been running everything stock and getting a feel for it. Its fast, Very, Very fast. Imported the huge backlog of photos i had to work on (1100 RAWs) and threw them to the 3900X for import processing.. It completed the task in under 20 minutes, my 6700k took twice that for half the photos! Lightroom runs a treat now, is far more responsive and doesnt bog my entire system to a crawl when doing import/export anymore.

Gaming I noticed I no longer have the stuttering that plagued the 6700k in BF5.. Slightly better FPS in a few titles that are CPU bound surprisingly as well, though i have not run my official benchmark numbers yet

Heres one of the photos i processed, Seemed apropriate

I remember back in the day going from my P4 2.4ghz cpu to an AMD 64 3000+ gave me 3X more fps in CC:S. I was so happy back then haha

Zen 2 ftw!

And the king was placed, for all the world to show disgrace but only beauty flowed from this place...

SO I'll also post an update/summary of how things have gone:

-I switched from the MSI Godlike to the Gigabyte Aorus Master because of software issues on the Godlike plus the fact I had -serious- performance issues on it (Like, i was nailing about 2500-ish average in Cinebench R15 on the Godlike VS 3100 on the Gigabyte which is average for most 3900X cpus) Overall, much happier with the Gigabyte board, I'd have gone for the Aorus Xtreme except it wasnt in stock

-That said, not-all-core turbo is still a little wonky on it, albeit far better than the Godlike was, in my case I ended up having to revert back to the shipping bios because of it, chipset fan CAN be slightly noisy when gaming but when idle its quiet. With the latest bios and AGESA my CPU was functionally locked to a 4.2ghz all core OC at all times (it never throttled down when idle or ramped up above that no matter what I did with power plan settings or installed software) shipping bios (F4 in my case) everything runs fine. I get all core turbo up to 4.2 depending on load and can get 4.45 on lightly threaded. I'm lucky I suppose. On top of that temps never break 70 which is such a nice thing since my old 6700k was routinely nailing 80s at the end

-I had some pretty bad stability issues, I think I've got them narrowed down now, Something about my Soundblaster G5 external sound card was NOT playing nice with the system. Was getting really bad static and background noise from it that would get increasingly worse, followed by audio drop outs, glitches, then the entire system locking up, disconnecting it and going to onboard audio solved the issue so far, Also I cant keep my GPU at the prior overclock despite the 680X allowing it to run almost 20 degrees C cooler, I am thinking it might be a quirk with PCIe 4.0. Its fine with me since my 1080 Ti had little OC headroom but just thought I'd throw it out there for anyone else

-Benchmarks have been interesting. It absolutely destroys my 6700K in my photography workload, Its nice to not have my system slow to an unusable crawl while processing photos. Import is also a breeze now as converting to DNG files takes a fraction of the time as before. I converted 1100 photos to DNG in about 20 minutes. My 6700k could take over an hour for 500! On top of that I can actually use the thing while its working.. Utterly speechless on how impressed I am

-Game wise, its about even with the 6700k but I will say I notice less occasional stuttering and hitching that the 6700k could experience, Most noticably in BFV which is now very silky smooth. Albeit I game at 4k so in so many cases I'm GPU bound so keep that in mind

Despite some of my teething issues I've been quite impressed by it Really good little CPU
