CPU upgrade questions

New to this forum and have a fairly basic knowledge in regards to PC parts and building. I have a Ryzen 5 1600X with a GeForce 1050Ti 4Gb of DDR5 ram. I built my PC myself, and I'm looking to upgrade these parts specifically and i'm going to upgrade both to the newer high end models that have or are coming out eventually but I was wondering which one specifically is better to upgrade. I know that a lot of games are CPU intensive nowadays, but I didn't know if upgrading my CPU would cause major bottlenecking to the point of it not being worth it and just need to upgrade both at the same time which isnt a problem financially. I just don't know if there are other specifics or details that I'm missing in terms of my other PC parts that may be affected that I need to look into. Like is upgrading these parts going to cause heat issues even if not overclocked with.

In regards to the specific upgrades for the aforementioned parts I was looking to go for maybe a Ryzen 7 of sorts and GPU wise I wanted to go for a 1080Ti or AMD equivalent. Also, worth noting, I discussed this briefly with some other people who directed me to this site who mentioned something about 3rd party GPUs or something that seemed a lot cheaper, but they didn't really explain it to me besides the price gap being upwards of 500USD. If someone could touch on that subject a bit that would be very helpful as well.

Overall, i know there is a lot of information missing needed for you to be able to help me and that's due in part to me not knowing what information you need about my specs which I would be happy to provide if it's helpful. It's just a bit confusing in the aspect that when you're starting from scratch, these things are a lot more clear in that you can piece everything together like a puzzle. Whereas now I am essentially taking puzzle pieces out and putting in others that I don't have the knowledge to know if they fit.

Welcome. It would be helpful to get some additional basic specs:

1. PSU model
2. Motherboard model
3. RAM installed (even SSD if you have one)
4. target experience like resolution and refresh rate (60Hz?)
5. budget

A 1080Ti is still completely relevant, providing the best value for non-RTX performance if you can find second-hand (look in the market place forums).

Just as information the memory on your GPU is GDDR5 not DDR5 which does not exist yet

We will be happy to help you out so if you can tell us about all the parts you have which includes stuff like the PSU (that matters a lot) and the monitor
After that if you can tell us what you are using the PC for and what you would like to use the PC for and how much you can/want to spend we can help you out

Wecome to OCN by the way
