The correct wording would be "Guinea Pig" tester, have been that all my Life thus far.
Actually "Guinea Pig" is more appropriate.

In unknown territory with no info. I found myself there 1 time..thinking.."Why the **** didn't I wait until Flanker ran a sample 1 time before doing this?"

Meanwhile, I gut subzero with imminent condensation and probably should make something happen that Idk what is going on.

No idea what the RAM or chip does, but raping it anyway.

No voltage or speed baselines, no nothing. Derp!

Release date for Zen 3 has been set for the end of the year. It might be wrong and AMD might surprise us but I wouldn't count on it, anyway, the performance difference won't be spectacular so if you want to get something new just buy a 3700/3900 and it will last a very long time.

I'm with you on this. the fan on my MSI Meg X570 Ace never actually runs as the profile states that it starts up when the chipset is at 70C and it would usually sit in the mid 50C and when running blender would just about pass 60c.

I want to scratch that itch, but I also don't like the idea of buying something that will be superseded relatively soon (and yes I know, in the computer world the next best thing is always around the corner).

Also looking at all the X570 motherboards out there, the Gigabyte Aorus line is the only one that offers everything I'd need (it's amazing how few X570 boards have 2 internal USB 3.2 Gen 1 headers, as my case has 4 front USB 3 ports, so I need 2 headers for that). I've used Gigabyte in the past with no complaints, and currently using an Asus board. Reading though that the Gigabyte bios on the X570 boards kinda sucks (though not sure how big of a deal it really is).

Anyway, what's the smart thing to do here? Buy now, or wait? When I buy I don't want to have to upgrade for at least another 5 years again, so buying something cheap now and upgrading within a year isn't an option (and is just dumb, as that's throwing away money).
I'm in the same boat as you wanting to scratch that itch so bad! We have similar systems.
But I'm a little hesitant to see what sort of hardware is required for the new Microsoft Flight Simulator.
Good luck, keep us posted on what you get, I'm leaning towards a 3700X

I’d recommend waiting if you can. Zen 3 is going to have massive performance gains over 2. Stated to be at least 20% faster across the board. Although I have a Gigabyte X570 Xtreme with a 3950X. The Zen 3 will be faster than intels chips in single threaded perf if what they claim is true.

IDK about the 3900X, but my 3800X is a beast. I have it next to my i9-9900K build and it's hard to tell them apart without using benchmark software.
You should just upgrade your system. Going from the 4790K to a 3900X will be like night and day. You will like it.

Does't make sense to wait. By time Zen3 comes out, even if it was +15% performance, then you might think "hmm maybe i should wait for Zen4 since it will use DDR5 and new socket for future upgrades". You'll just end up waiting forever.

I am actually starting to lean towards just going for Zen 2 at this point. Now I'm just debating if I really need all the horsepower the 3900X can provide, and if I should go for a 3800X/3700X instead.

There will always be a better thing "just around the corner". It's not like the next gen is going to make Zen 2 obsolete. Pair any of those chips with some fast RAM and you will be good to go for years.
